This is my timeline on Robert A Hubbard.

1850 Census 12th Division of Gordon County Georgia has the R A Hubbard family
It appears to have been taken Oct 17 1850
R A Hubbard 30 Shoemaker born in South Carolina
Loucinda Hubbard 30 born in Tennessee
Warren T or P 5 born in Georgia
Leonard F 4 born in Georgia
Caldona C 3 born in Georgia

Also in Gordon County is
William Hubbard 41 Preacher born in South Carolina
Sarah 24 born in Tennessee
William 8 born in Georgia
Sarah 3 born in Georgia
I have no connection between them but that the husbands and wives were born in the same states and they are the only Hubbard’s in Gordon County in 1850.
So this may be a connection, or it may be no relation at all.

Gordon County, Georgia is located about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta.
Established in 1850 from portions of Floyd, Cass (now Bartow), and Murray County.
Named in honor of William Washington Gordon, the first president of the Georgia Central Railroad.
During The War Between the States a number of battles were fought in the county, most notably the battle of Resaca, an early struggle during the Atlanta Campaign.
Early marriage records were destroyed by Federal troops in the spring of 1864.

Established in 1832, the county was named for the Cherokee Indians.
The old Federal Highway, completed in 1805, ran in the northeast part of the county.
Cherokee County Georgia had a portion cut out to form Milton County for a time after the Civil War.
During the Great Depression the counties of Milton and Campbell merged with Fulton, in part to save the expense of running a county government.
Sometimes an ancestor disappears from Cherokee County and is found in Milton County (which is now defunct).
Anyway, CrossRoads District was on the Cherokee County/Forsyth County line.
In CrossRoads district was a little community called Ophir.
Crossroads was named for the major intersection of the road running from Ball Ground to Free home and the east-west road to Hightower in Forsyth County.
Also called: 1000- Cross Roads (Free Home Community)

The next time we find Robert A Hubbard is in the 1864 “Joe Brown Census” Pickens County GA
The 1864 Militia Enrollment Lists [commonly called the "Joe Brown Census"] is a collection of lists of all Georgia men eligible for military service in Georgia but who were not serving in the Confederate or Georgia state forces at the time.
Hubbard, Leonard 17 yrs 9 mo Farmer Born Ga.
Hubbard, Robert 50 yrs 10 mo Shoemaker Born S.C.
District -1036 his area was at the top of Pickens County near Gilmer County
Exemption- none listed
According to these dates the date of birth for Robert would be 1813/14 Lenard 1846/47

Supposedly after the war, Robert Hubbard, a widower, made the trip to Alabama with his son Lenard and Mary Bartlett and her brothers.
I have been unable to find him in the Alabama Census though I have been able to find most all of the others in the travel party.
Many of the Bartlett's and I heard some Hubbard's moved on to Texas. Is this a possibility?... that he moved on to Texas?

Oral History/Research regarding Alabama move.

Robert A Hubbard, born about between 1814 to 1820 depending on which census you look at, in South Carolina and his wife Lucinda Hubbard are found in the Gordon County Georgia Census with three small children in June of 1850.
They are Warren, age five, Lenard Franklin, age four, and Caledonia age three. (Caledonia is another word for Scotland.)
Robert’s occupation is listed as a shoemaker.

Around 1867/1868 Lenard and his wife Mary Bartlett and baby John Robert Hubbard left Georgia and came to Alabama.
Robert A and several of Mary’s brothers made the trip with them. Lucinda, Robert Hubbard’s wife had died sometime before the trip.
The story goes that the Hubbard’s and Bartlett’s came to Alabama in covered wagons. The trip took one week! Mary related how she was afraid to go to sleep at night for fear the wolves would get the baby.

When the group came to the Coosa River the water was high and the men had to build rafts to cross it.
After they crossed they were unloading the raft and one of the steers leaped from the raft, tilting it up to one side causing one of the Bartlett boys to fall into the water.
He drowned before they could reach him. He was about 15 years old.

Most of the Bartlett’s and Hubbard’s remember hearing their grandparents telling this story. The Hubbard’s and Bartlett's are settled around Shady Grove Community, on Sand Mountain, in Etowah County Alabama.
Many of the descendents still live there today.

Robert Hubbard was never happy after losing his wife and moving to Alabama.
In the mid 1890s he decided to go to Texas to visit his daughter Jane.
Several of the children remember Lenard taking his father to the train station.
After a few months of not hearing from him, they begin to make inquires and learned that he had never even arrived in Texas.
He was never heard from again, and none of the family ever knew exactly what happened to Robert Hubbard.

In the 1870 Georgia Census, Cherokee County,
Harbins District 3, Aug 1870
is,
Robert A Hubbard 56 Born Sc
Leuiza 26 (Is this an error? Or new wife?) Born Ga
Kezia J 17 (could this be Jane?) Born Ga
Arminda L 15 (could this be Armenia?) Born Ga
Harriet 9 Born Ga
Many of these family members seem to fit.
Lucinda had died before the migrated to Alabama. And if this is the correct family, I would say she died around 1861.

What Happened to:
Warren- he would be about 27
Caldona- she would be about 23
Robert A Jr -he would be about 16

Harbins District #1008 is in the northwestern part of Cherokee Co.
It is south of Salacoa, north of Fair Play, west of Clayton and nw of Canton. The town’s of Waleska and Reinhardt College are within Harbins Dist.

Now this is my wildcard

The only child I actually have information on is Lenard Franklin, my great grandfather.
I would love to discover anything about the other children.
