My Life at February 2009
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 28, 2009(Saturday)
Cailyn had trouble poohing for the last two days and we helped her but she still can't pooh.
At night we went to the couple's fellowship. With a baby and without the need to lead/serve, we are able to go there late and leave early! We felt a bit guilty, but with a baby sometimes it is hard to be on time for potluck!
February 27, 2009(Friday)
I played badminton and workout a bit today. Then at night Carmen led song while I drove other people to church. Cailyn today also had a good mood. She also was walking (with our help) for two or three steps. Hopefully she knows how to walk by summer!
February 26, 2009(Thursday)
This morning we went to WIC to take some food stamp. I got a call a few days ago that there is a blood drive located at IU. However when I called again today, they said that there is no such thing.
For the class today, we are playing the "beer game". This game introduces the idea about information distortion in the supply chain. The four stages (factory, distributor, wholesaler and retailer) pass product (beer in this case) and demand information. Two years ago I helped a professor to host this game. This time I am hosting this game. It turned out to be quite messy. Without any assistant, I have to run around the room to help the 22 students about what this game is about. I may not have given the best instruction and people are quite confused at first. Furthermore, 1/3 of the students have played this game before and therefore the result is not what I desire. I think that next time I should play the online version of the game instead.
At night we went to prayer meeting; we haven't been there for the last several weeks. Then Kenneth went to our house to have some sharing.
February 25, 2009(Wednesday)
I drove parents to the airport very early in the morning. Then I got some sleep and also worked on dissertation.
February 24, 2009(Tuesday)
Carmen and I went to workout together this morning. It will be a long time when we can go to do exercise together again! I returned to my running routine and it is good after running. Then I taught the class and at night we had dinner together. Since parents are leaving tomorrow, they spent lots of time with Cailyn.
February 23, 2009(Monday)
Today lunch we went to IMU's Tudor room for buffet lunch. This is a western style buffet and the price is around $11 for non-student and $7 for students. We have been there many times; however I find that the food here is much worse than the Japanese buffet from last Monday and is slightly more expensive. Then I played Ping-Pong with dad for the last time in this trip for 1.7 hours. At night Carmen and I went out for dinner together and also we went to buy some grocery. The next time that the two of us go out will be at least three months, when parents-in-law comes.
February 22, 2009(Sunday)
This morning I played Ping-Pong with dad. And then after Sunday worship Carmen and I went out for some shopping. Cailyn also knows more about kissing us.
February 21, 2009(Saturday)
I played badminton for 2.5 hours in the morning. After hurting the foot about three weeks ago, I haven't played sport (except running or workout) and it is good to have some fun.
February 20, 2009(Friday)
After 5 days of rest, I played ping-pong with dad. Then at night Carmen helped out with the children Sunday school while I went to Bible study. Throughout the day I am still searching the dissertation topic. I can't find something that is good yet.
February 19, 2009(Thursday)
I gave my students mid-term yesterday. It felt good because I don't have to study for it. I am at the other side of the table so I enjoy seeing students working hard. I also finish marking the exam two or three hours after their midterm and that is definitely one of the fastest professors that return exam to them.
February 18, 2009(Wednesday)
We brought Cailyn to see the pediatrician for 12-month check-up. She is now 30.25 inches (75-90%), 20.25lb (25-50%), head circumference 46cm (75%) and the development age is 14 month 3 weeks. Good that everything is on track. Cailyn is a bit more fuzzy and struggling throughout the day because of the vaccine shot.
Then I had a short meeting about finding the new deacons. Jacky came to our house for dinner.
February 17, 2009(Tuesday)
Today is Cailyn's one year old birthday! This morning parents gave her red pocket already. Then parents + Carmen + Cailyn went out for a walk on the campus (because the weather is so nice) and also accompany me to go to school. At night, we invited church friend Joyce and her family to have birthday dinner at our home. Dad prepared a lot of food and Carmen prepared the birthday cake. We had a great time. Cailyn is no longer an infant, but a toddler!
February 16, 2009(Monday)
We had a day trip and went to Indy today. We first went to Costco and then we had an all-you-can-eat lunch. Then we went to Babies R Us and lastly we went to Wal-Mart. At night Carmen and I went to workout together.
February 15, 2009(Sunday)
After church, the Macedonia group committee went to our home for meeting.
February 14, 2009(Saturday)
For the last couple of days we had great problem putting Cailyn to have afternoon nap. Today, we took a completely different approach. Rather than sleeping with her and give her the pacifier, I just let her play (and get bored) at the baby's crib, without any pacifier. In the mean time, I am studying in the room. Then after 20 mins, she just fell asleep automatically, without any struggling or effort. This is definitely good news to us. Probably she has passed the stage of sleeping with us.
At night, parents take care Cailyn while Carmen and I went out for dinner and we went to Border bookstore to read comic.
February 13, 2009(Friday)
In the morning, parents, Carmen, Cailyn and I went to buy grocery. Then in the afternoon I played ping-pong with dad. I haven't played ping-pong for a long time, and we were rusty at first. However afterward we did ok. Then at night the fellowship was about male vs. female game and dating and craft. Carmen and I were responsible and it turns out to be pretty good.
February 12, 2009(Thursday)
I let the students work on the project today in class. Furthermore I handed out mid-course evaluation. Rather than waiting until the end of the course to hand out evaluation, I handed out this "unofficial" evaluation so that I know how I am doing before it is too late. This is also a good thing for me to know what I need to work on in order to get a better evaluation!
At night I went to the airport to pick up parents. Indy has a new airport and I got lost when driving to the airport. Google maps give me the direction for the old airport. The new one looks bigger and brighter!
Parents got a lot of gifts from various people to us and Cailyn! They got a lot of nice food too! So for the next coming weeks, we will have really delicious Asian style food!
February 11, 2009(Wednesday)
The car handle on the driver side of our car was broken a few weeks ago and today I finally took the car to the car shop to fix it. A car handle from Toyota costs $100+, and to get a second hand from the machine shop still costs $60. We got one from internet which only costs $30. However we also found out that the motor of the driver side window is not working. And that is much more expensive, around $250 to fix!
For the remaining of the day, I am still actively thinking of what I should do on the third essay of my dissertation. I had some clue previously but none of them works. So I am still brainstorming! My advisor told me that this is a fun process, but I still don't see how fun/productive it is.
February 10, 2009(Tuesday)
I had a meeting with professors about a new paper that I started a couple of weeks ago (about approximating the tandem queuing system). However they think today that there is not much hope for this paper and so probably this is the end of this paper.
I taught today and at night Jacky and Chris had dinner with us. But since they are busy, they left after dinner.
February 09, 2009(Monday)
I tried to "tum" Cailyn to go to bed for 30 mins during late afternoon. However, she slept briefly about an hour before and no matter what I do she just doesn't sleep. That makes me quite frustrating because I am afraid that she won't get enough sleep. However she behaved fine for the rest of the day.
February 08, 2009(Sunday)
I had deacon board meeting in the morning. Nothing else special happened today.
February 07, 2009(Saturday)
We had a nomination committee meeting today, to choose the deacon for the upcoming year. I have been serving in the position of church president for the last two years and I am not allowed to serve in this position again next year. This is good because I don't have to worry as much! We discussed extensively whether Carmen or myself should be in the deacon board (because only one of the couples can be in the deacon board); she is great as a worship deacon, but at the end, I will continue to serve as the church deacon.
At night we went out for dinner.
February 06, 2009(Friday)
Normal day today. Nothing much happened.
February 05, 2009(Thursday)
Normal day today. Nothing much happened.
February 04, 2009(Wednesday)
Lately Cailyn really knows how to kiss us! She kissed us several times today, which makes us really happy! All she did was to move her head such that her lip touches our cheek, but that is good enough!
February 03, 2009(Tuesday)
There is some snow today again. Bloomington is not supposed to have that many snow. But the snow today is not as serious as last Wednesday.
I went to school for teaching, and also meeting with professor about papers.
During our dinner time, Cailyn usually sits with us and we gave her cereal as snack. Lately, she really likes to feed me and Carmen to eat the cereal! She will definitely be a very caring person that is willing to share her thing!
February 02, 2009(Monday)
We went out for a walk today. There is still snow; and the road that we walked is quite muddy. Therefore the baby's car and also ourselves are a bit dirty. At night, Jacky came to our house for dinner and he shared about some problems that are occurring in church.
February 01, 2009(Sunday)
We went to church today; afterward it is the nomination committee to choose next year's deacon.
