What qualifications do you have that would make you a strong candidate for this program?
My career objective is to become the Chief Information Officer in an international networking company. In order to reach my goal, I need to have a strong technical and business background. I am confident that my technical ability is convincing, because I have already achieved the degree of master of engineer (M.Eng) and the certificate of “Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert” (CCIE), which represents the “guru” status in the computer networking industry. There are, however, some business attributes that I would like to develop and expand in order to be flourish in a managerial position. I am sure that the experience from the online MBA at IU will fulfill my expectation and unleash my potential of not only being a manger but also a successful leader.

In order to participate MBA program at highly respected school such as IU along with a full time job, discipline is the most important element that determines whether one will be successful or not. I have previously enrolled in different types of online courses and achieved impressive grades. Moreover, during my CCIE certificate journey, I had no study partner but yet completed it in less than the expected time frame of 2 years. These are the two examples that outline my disciplinary character. In addition, the successful candidate must have exceptional time management skills and not only be hardworking but also be “smart-working”. When I was studying the M.Eng degree, I was working full time and pursuing the CCIE simultaneously. I have also maintained both my daily 8 hours sleeping habit and my honor roll status. I believe my time management skill is chiseled to perfection.

It is essential to have the support of those around me; this importance will become obvious during the difficult time. I am thankful that my company approves my choice; my family members and friends are excited with my decision too. Moreover, a strong candidate should have prolonged exposure to various cultural backgrounds and comprehend the importance of having flexible managerial style in accordance to subordinates with different background. I spent my childhood in Asia and grew up in North America, well known for its diversity and the wide range of cultures populated. My current position as a network engineer in Venezuela gives me the experience of living in a drastically different culture and a less materialized world. These prolonged exposures to a variety of cultures and international travel experience have enabled me to acquire a deep appreciation of each culture, and have a new perspective of life.

What abilities and attributes would you like to develop more fully?
The main reason for I enrolling in the MBA program is to broaden my managerial and business perception. By enrolling in the MBA program, I will learn the business aspect of a company and the administrative work required to operate a company. I would also like to appreciate how individuals function their business and the lessons they have learned. I want to understand how everyone handles business and listen to their experience too. Specifically, it is my desire to know why a financial consultant handles certain type of crisis differently from a technical manager. Moreover, I want to know how to interpret between lines in a financial report thoroughly and how to be an effective and motivating manager. My ultimate objective is to be able to move up the corporate ladder in an international company and have an influential, interesting and well-paid career. Expanding my personal network through a highly respected school such as IU that has strong alumni association around the globe will greatly assist my journey towards success.
