In the film and book Dr. R. Chandra, the designer of HAL 9000, and an American crew are aboard the Soviet spaceship The Leonov, travelling to Jupiter to find out what happened to US spaceship The Discovery (in the film 2001). In the event that HAL disobeys thier directives he has devised a device that will sever the main connection through which HAL controls the ship, along with a remote control to trigger it. These hand-props were acquired in 1985 during the liquidation of the MGM Prophouse and are being made available now for the first time.

These props were featured with the actors and played a crucial role in the outcome of the story. These are a must for any serious collector of science fiction movie history. They are in fair condition having lost two buttons on the cable-cutter unit. They are powered by 9 volt batteries, which I haven't replaced because I didn't want to damage anything. They can probably be easily replaced though so the LED's will blink again as they did during filming.

The cutter has small non-functional blades to cut through HAL's main logic cable.
