Cultural Exposure
Cultural exposure
Convenor of the Cultural Programme, Joy Simons-Brown, continues to book artistes who expose the students to music which many do not often hear. The programme has made such an impact on the school that the administration has requested that the Association increase the frequency of the visits to more than once per term. The school liaison remarked that, "this was something that the girls needed to hear", and believes that the effort would go a long way not only towards appreciation of good music, but also the inculcation of moral values.
In March, trumpeter and vocalist, Dwight Richards, thrilled the students and gave them the message that they could achieve anything that they wanted, and warned them against being drug couriers. The Guardian Life Singers performed in June and left a message of friendship.
Having sensitized the students over the past two years with gospel and pop, Joy plans to take the programme to another level, moving into jazz and the classics.
