1. The Hugs at Seal Beach Tournament will be an ABC Sanctioned tournament. Participation is by invitation and open to men only.
2. All bowlers must be a member of the ABC and provide evidence of membership at registration. Bowlers who are not members may purchase an ABC card at the tournament.
3. a. Members of the Professional Bowling Association may bowl, with a limit to one bowler per team.
b. PBA members must identify themselves prior to bowling.
4. The tournament shall consist of DOUBLES ONLY for 6 games. Participants will bowl 3 games on their first assigned pair and 3 games on a second assigned pair. There will be two doubles teams assigned to each pair of lanes.
5. A maximum of 76 (two-man) teams will bowl.
6. After the six games of competition, the top 16 teams (if 52 total teams or less, or 24 if 53 total teams or more) will be placed in a bracket (if 24 teams, standings 1-8 will have a first round bye) for a one-loss and out elimination process. Standings will be based on total pins including handicap.
a. In the event of a tie of 2 teams or more for the 16th /24th position, a 9th and 10th frame roll-off will be played, and replayed, for the 16th /24th position.
b. In the event there are ties for other positions, standings will be based on total scratch pins. If still tied, a coin flip will determine standing.
c. Once reduced to 16 finalists, the 16th finisher will bowl the 1st finisher, 15th will bowl the 2nd finisher and so forth for the first round.
d. The remaining 8 teams will then continue with the bracket, until only 4 remain, then until only 2.
e. The final two in the bracket will bowl for the championship.
f. In the event of a tie for any match, a 9th and 10th frame roll-off will commence until there is a winner.
7. Handicap for the tournament will be 80% of 425. Maximum entering average for any team will also be 425.
8. The top 16/24 teams will be eligible for prize monies.
9. As each team progresses through the bracket additional prize monies will be awarded for wins.
10. Prizes will be awarded within 30 days of the completion of the tournament by check. 100% of the prize monies will be returned.
11. Entering averages for the tournament will be as follows:
a. The highest ABC “book” average as of April 15, 2004, if none.
b. The highest 21 or more game average as of May 31, 2004, if none.
c. The highest ABC “book” average as of April 15, 2003, if none.
d. The highest 2003 Summer average, if none.
e. An entering average of 225 will be assigned.
f. Averages must be from 10-pin league competition.
g. Averages from “sports condition” are not eligible.
h. Bowlers MUST submit proof of entering averages in the form of league sheets, copies of Book averages including identification of the Book, etc), or signed documents from league secretaries. Bowlers with 2003 Book averages must submit the highest 2003 average as well as their current submitted HUGS tournament entry average. You know the drill.
12. Verification of averages must accompany the entry in the form of league standing sheets, or a photocopy of the “book” average, or a letter signed by an officer of the league. Incomplete entries WILL be returned.
13. Any Bowler who has qualified for a prize of $300 or more in any single event MUST report all positions and all amounts won and all scores for the previous 12-month period prior to the tournament date (back to June 1 2003). This information must be presented prior to bowling and may be considered for possible re-rating. Failure to report this information will result in disqualification and loss of all winnings.
14. The tournament management reserves the right to re-rate any bowler’s entering average. ABC Rule 319 will be applied. This will be done prior to bowling, and bowlers re rated will be eligible for full refunds.
15. A maximum 5-pin drop rule will apply for Book Averages from 2003 to 2004.
16. Bowlers who have a current 21 game average as of 5/31/2004 that is 10 or more pins higher than their 2003 Book average will use the current 5/31/04 average.

18. Fees may be paid by personal check received before May16, 2003. After that date, fees must be paid by Money Order, Cash, or Certified Check only.
19. Bowlers will be allowed 2 practice balls on each lane of each pair assignment.
20. Any disputes must be reported no later than 30 minutes after the completion of the 6-game qualifier. The tournament management will be the final authority in the event of disputes in accordance with tournament and ABC Rules.
21. In addition to the regular tournament, there will be available optional entry at additional costs:
a. 3-game brackets for each 3 game set (100% prize monies returned)
b. A mega-bracket for 6 games (100% prize monies returned)
c. A best 3 out of 6 scratch and handicap (100% prize monies returned)
d. Scratch and handicap side-pots (100% prize monies returned)
e. Multiple doubles entries (like sweepers) at $2.00/pair
f. Optional 6 game all events Scratch and Handicap ($10 entry each)
