Nanka makes up the southern portion of Gertan Rin, being the land with cities of flowers and scents. Its sister half of Hokubu is wider, while Nanka is longer. Nanka (meaning south in Japanese) is most well respected for its hard-battling trainers despite its floral nature.

Though Hokubu hosts the Gyms of the Silver and Gold Badges, Nanka hosts the Gym of the Platinum Badge; the last Badge of the PMD*2 (Precious Metal Division*2). Although this Gym resides in Nanka's smallest town, it is still the hardest Badge to earn.

While being most well respected for its trainers, Nanka is most well known for its flowers and trees. Such plants can be found in the beloved Rainbow Metro. Most come from Carnation City and its groves and nurseries.

The somewhat small island of FlyCatcher sits off the south-western coast, out from the Bellossom Beach. FlyCatcher Isle rests in the western section of the Pompon Sea, being the only island part of the Nanka portion of Gertan Rin. This is a no-capture sanctuary*3 where mostly Ice and Grass- types reside.

Thorn Forest (stretched all the way from Sunflower, straight across to Rose) is home to vicious Fearow with bad attitudes. There's only one human they truly trust and any friend of hers is a friend of theirs (so to speak). being larger than most Fearow gives them both an advantage and a disadvantage. Being big gives them bulk to throw around, but also makes them big targets to Poke'Ball-happy bozos.

Nanka is also home to Professor Joseph Palm; the Pokemon Professor responsible for handing out beginning Pokemon. He's quite a bit like Professor Elm of New Bark Town, Johto, but also a bit like Professor Oak of Pallet Town, Kanto, although he is not related to either of them. He is, however, related to Professor Paulina Pine*4 of Javelin Town, Hokubu. The four beginners to choose from in Nanka are Pichu*5, Cleffa*6, Togepi*7 and Igglybuff*8. Gertan Rin is the only sector of any League permitted to have four main beginner choices.

Have something you would like to add here? Have something you think I should add here? Let me know!

*-Bellossom: #182; The Flower Pokemon - Plentiful in the tropics. When it dances, its petals rub together and make a pleasant ringing sound. They gather at times to dance. They say the dance is a ritual to summon the sun.

*2-PMD/Precious Metals Division: The 3 hardest Badges on Gertan Rin to earn. (Gold, Silver & Platinum). Designed to keep weak trainers from filling up the Rainbow League's records.

*3-no capture sanctuary: You can capture Pokemon inside the Ice Caves, but not outside on the main island.

*4-Professor Paulina Pine: Professor Joseph Palm's younger sister.

*5-Pichu: #172; The Tiny Mouse Pokemon - It is not yet skilled at storing electricity. It may send out a jolt if amused or startled. Despite its small size, it can zap even adult humans. However, if it does so, it also surprises itself.

*6-Cleffa: #173; The Starshape Pokemon - Because of its unusual star-shape silhouette, people believe that it came here on a meteor. When numerous meteors illuminate the night sky, sightings of Cleffa strangely increase.

*7-Togepi: #175; The Spike Ball Pokemon - The shell seems to be filled with joy. It is said that it will share good luck when treated kindly. A proverb claims that happiness will come to anyone who can make a sleeping Togepi stand up.

*8-Igglybuff: # 174; The Balloon Pokemon - It has a very soft body. If it starts to roll, it will bounce all over and be impossible to stop. Its extremely flexible and elastic body make it bounce continuously-Anytime, anywhere.
