  2. Minutes: Correspondence: item amended to read: “In the context of correspondence in the HDM about the proposed Roos Wind Farm, Hilary said we need to be sure we accurately reflect FOE policy if we write to the press on FOE’s behalf. Haris said that she had written as FOE Regional Representative.”
  3. Vote of thanks: unanimously carried: a vote of thanks to Guy Moore and Martin Deane for their excellently organised events.
  4. Treasurer’s report: Ian reported that Hull FoE has £3,511 in its account. Chrys reported that £1,000 had been transferred from the Lloyds TSB CARGO account to the Ecology Building Society. CARGO account (rates currently 2.16% net)
  5. Newsletter: it was decided to print 300 copies this time and distribute copies to all councillors, libraries (via central distribution), community centres etc. Shan volunteered to take copies to distribute in Beverley
  6. Incinerator campaign: the following people had booked slots to speak:
    1. Steve Noreiko – on contradictions in Pink Report, BPEO and Enviros report
    2. Martin Deane
    3. Haris L-D – Planning + Health aspects
    4. Barry Robinson – Health
    5. Rilba Jones – Health + Legal aspects
    Haris said that national FoE was not responding to requests for information, and that we should make a formal complaint about the lack of support from them.
  7. Regional Get-together: it was agreed that people should meet at Paragon Station to catch the 9.37 am train on Saturday, 13 Jan. The cost would be £14.80 return (reimbursed from HFoE funds).
  8. Sustainable Communities Bill: comments are needed by 19 Jan 07. The Bill seeks to halt the decline in local economies. Diana Johnson MP has promised to be in the House for the reading. Shan offered to write to Stuart Graham MP to ask him to be there. Shan
  9. Draft Statement of Community Involvement: responses to this document are required by 29 Jan 07. It was left to individual members to respond if they wished.
  10. FoE 5-year Plan: the Leeds workshop on 13 Jan aims to consult members about the progress of the current plan and gather ideas for the next stage. Steve said the group should make the point at the workshop that local groups should be strongly supported by national FoE not only when carrying out national campaigning objectives, but when they campaigned on local issues.
  11. Climate Change Campaign: Details of the Climate Change Bill are still to be set out. Our local Council’s response to the climate change issue has been weak so far. Will there be targets? Guy reported that Al Gore is coming to Sheffield to speak at an international conference (7 Feb 07). He would try to get details. Guy
  12. HFoE Future activities: the meeting agreed that some money should be set aside to fund workshop attendance Various ideas were discussed:
    *Campaign for more bio-degradable packaging
    *Buying land in rain forests to thwart development
    *Wilberforce Year: modern slavery – migrant workers – environmental justice link
    *Wilberforce Year we should write to the FoE branch in Sierra Leone to establish a dialogue
    *Continue the campaign against GM

  14. Straw-fired power station: David had written letter of qualified approval for the East Riding’s planned straw-fired power station. An acknowledgement had been received but no further details.
  15. CARGO report: Chrys reported that the electric float had been serviced by HCC at Stockholm Road. It had again needed some welding, and mechanical repairs. The doors had been re-fitted.
    Shan asked whether the project could not expand, under a paid manager, into something similar to the St Nicholas project in York. However, it was pointed out that expansion under professional management had already been investigated, with discouraging results. Hull FoE should however, put more pressure on the council to introduce its green waste collection service – promised for several years now, but continually postponed.

  18. Community Network meeting minutes were available
  19. AOB Residential weekend: in Preston, the weekend beginning 28 April 07. Participants would have own rooms en-suite. Purpose would be networking for Northern groups Climate change camp: Guy said it would probably be near Robin Hood airport. Volunteers were needed to organise it.
    Beverley Group: Shan reported that the group were hoping to have a market stall (on Saturdays), where they could feature materials from other green groups (eg FairTrade) in addition to FoE
