CARGO report
September 2006
September beats all records: we’ve been running this project since Sept
2003, and have seen a steady rise in take-up of our very
reasonably-priced service (35p per bag). In fact, June, July and September of this
year were all record months, but the highest ever individual monthly
total was reached in September.
A change of tactics is being tried: to avoid the site just filling
up with compost bins we are opening the oldest ones up to reveal the
contents, and spreading the new material straight on the ground. The
proposal is to get a solid layer of material over the ground, and put the
topsoil down over that. We are leaving the 2 rows of little bins which
form a boundary. Material in the four big original bins seems to be
rotting down nicely into mulch, and David can use this on the wildlife
garden.
Our thanks to Sharon for continuing to collect the money raised by
the sale of tags, and our thanks to the local businesses below for
selling the tags. Our thanks, too, to Hull cc’s Waste Management department
who continue to house and maintain the milk float; and to David, who
keeps the batteries topped up.
