If you bank with the Co-op
If you bank with the Co-op, using your Co-op credit or debit card for your purchases between now and the end of the year will mean more money for the bank’s “Customers Who Care, Safer Chemicals” campaign. And one of the five charities supported by this Co-op campaign is WEN, the Women’s Environmental Network (who are, as you might expect, very careful to warn their members “don’t spend more, just pay differently”).
WEN have been campaigning for fifteen years on down-to-earth matters. They’ve had some success in promoting safer cosmetics and real nappies (the paper industry hates them). They’ve helped women set up co-operative vegetable gardening and composting schemes.
The theme of their anniversary conference sums them up nicely: “Global Footprints and Kitten Heels”.
I support Friends of the Earth and their high-level strategic objectives, but I would urge evrybody to join WEN: their campaigns are strongly aimed at where we live (men too, if they eat chocolate, use shampoo, change their babies’ nappies).
