Human Nature's Andrew Tierney is on his way to a rehearsal in Newcastle when Smash Hits phone him up fpr a chat. Grab a pen as Andrew gives us his top tips on fame!
TALENT
Is one thing but you also have to believe in yourself. "Everyone at school was critical and we weren't the most popular guys. It's difficult at times so you really have to believe in yourself."
ADVICE
According to this lyrical lad, is invaluable. "This guy told us, 'the special thing you've got is there's four of you. Never think that one of you is better than the others" he recalls. "We've always believed that."
FUN
And satisfaction go hand in hand for thses four friends. "The most important thing is we love what we do. People bag you for doing something but if you love it, you keep doing it anyway."
DEDICATION
Is something you need 100% of. "We went to uni and studied but when the music took off we had to dedicate 100% to it. We couldn't do both. It takes over your life." he warns with a laugh.
RESPECT
The people you meet on the way up, 'cause they may be there on the way back down. It's a great quote and something Human Nature have always believed. "Years ago we supported John Denver. On the first night we got a great reaction so the next night ne out us on before the crowd arrived. But you've gotta be nice cos you don't know where people may trun up in the future."
FAMILY
Support is something Andrew and his brother and fellow band member, Mike couldn't go without. "My family even let Toby live at our house for five yearswhile we were trying to make it happen. Our families are a great support." says the eldest Tierney.
TRUST
Your instincts. "The best music and the best decisions are made on gut instincts," declares Andy. Like the boys latest single Eternal Flame? "Yeah. Basically it was doing so well in Japan we decided to release it here."
DIRECTION
Is important if you want to tsay on track! "We spent years trying to decide exaclty where we wanted to be," he pipes. "Even choosing a name was difficult. We wanted to be called Crush but that is what Savage Garden were called back then." Andrew quickly assures us there is only one Human Nature in the world. We believe that one.
