We need a logo. I'm not as artistic as I would like to be, otherwise I'd just do it myself. If anyone reading this, however, would like to collaborate on such an endeavor, drop me a note. Homosexuals have their pink triangle, and I think that's wonderful. Now it's our turn. Heterosexuality is usually assumed, so they don't need a support system. Also, a logo would give us the ability to advertise. If asexuals have the ability to advertise or otherwise send out "signals", there would be far fewer awkward moments in a bar. When I go to a bar, I go to have a drink, not to pick up some guy or some girl. I don't go to be picked up by some guy or some girl. It's not my style, and I don't want anyone to try to make it my style. We also need more active organizations. Most colleges nowadays have some sort of gay/lesbian/bisexual organization on campus. Asexuals are every bit as "queer" as homosexuals, and perhaps even more so, yet they are never mentioned in any alternative lifestyle creeds. Even the underrepresented will underrepresent us. It is a pity that the Asexual Coalition appears to be entirely inactive. I think asexuals need other asexuals to thrive. I'm the only asexual person I know, and I can't tell you how many times I've been ditched by a person simply because I'm not having sex with them. Magazines: Gay people have "Out" and "the Advocate". Black people have "Jet", "Ebony", and quite a few others. Plus-sized women have "Mode", white heterosexuals have everything else. I'm hoping to help improve that situation at least slightly by making this site. The Leather Spinsters have an e-zine, but my ideas vary slightly from theirs, so I'm creating one of my own. The Leather Spinsters e-zine appears to be more career oriented than the one I'm planning, and I'd like to cater to men as well as women. Friendship is so incredibly important, and I hate to see it belittled in our oversexed society. I came across a web site for free asexual personal ads. I don't know about you, but I don't want to pay to join while there are plenty of free (though not asexual) personal ads out there. I find it almost insulting. Someone make free personal ads! |
