The Bicentennial Man and Other Stories ![]()
|
![]() |
![]() | Another collection of robot stories.
It includes "Bicentennial Man" and award winning (1976 Nebula Award for Best Novelette) story about a robot trying to become a human. In his struggle he has to overcome many obstacles both technological, legal and emotional. One of the best robot stories ever written. Amazon books says that it is out of print. But still try to order it or try to find this story in other collections of Asimov robot stories. Your Asimov library will never be complete without this story. |
Asimov's New Guide to Science ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | A very well summary of science, its history and its current (at the time of writing of the book) state.
This book is a very informative source for every armchair scientist. It has chapters on nearly every aspect of physical and biological sciences. |
Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | This invaluable guide to all of Shakespeare's plays contains concise plot synopses, detailed scene-by-scene summaries, and an introduction to the mythological, historical, and geographical origins of the plays.

Nemesis ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | A different Asimov book. All previous science-fiction books of Asimov follows the plot of a carefully writen Galactic History. Although sometimes there are small deviations, in general every Asimov book can be placed consistently in this Galactic History.
However Nemesis is different. This book is not related to any other work by Asimov. A distant star called Nemesis is colonized by a group of people who wanted them to be disconnected from Earth, where anarchy and chaos is prevailing. However, Nemesis is on a collision course with Earth. Now they need to communicate with the world they want to forget about. |
The End of Eternity ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | A must-read in science-fiction literature. An incredibly clever book by Asimov.
Andrew Harlan is an Eternal, a time traveler that adjusts the history. He carefully considers the cause-and-effect relation between the events in the course of the time and eliminates the bad events by making a minimum change in the course of the events leading to the target event. In his trips he finds a girl who is quite out of her time and falls in love with her. However, things are not what they seem to be. This book is "The Best Time Travel Book" you can read. |
Foundation ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | The first book of Foundation Saga. It is "mathematically" calculated that the Empire will collapse soon. The anarchy will rule the galaxy for some time. The knowledge should be saved for future civilizations.
So they form a Foundation with best scientists and artists in a remote planet to record all knowledge in Encyclopaedia Galactica. But this is just the beginning. Foundation is a grand opening to the Foundation Saga. You will like Asimov's logic behind the construction of the Psychohistory science. This new (!) science says that, for large groups of people, future reactions can be predicted to a certain accuracy using statistical methods. Later I have read another book called The Country of Blind where a similar idea is used. Asimov's storytelling makes the difference here. |
Second Foundation ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | Third book of the Foundation Saga. After all the trouble and strife Foundation realizes that there is another Foundation. Surprise, surprise... |
Foundation and Empire ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | Second book of the foundation saga. Once formed by the Empire, the Foundation now has to confront Empire.
This conflict is pre calculated and the outcome is as expected. But then something unexpected happens. A mutant starts to threaten the future of Foundation. |
Foundation's Edge ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | The fourth book of the foundation saga.
In this book, the First Foundation is back on track and moving on to be the greatest power in Galaxy. However, science and technology alone do not bring power. They encounter a planet, called Gaia, where the mind and soul of everything on the planet comes together to form a bigger mind and soul. This idea is a reflection of Mysticism to science-fiction but Asimov makes a great job in integrating it to a science-fiction story. This book can be read as a continuation of the saga or as a stand alone book. However reading the first three book of the saga first is better. |
The Caves of Steel ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | Asimov's robot stories. Asimov is the mastermind of science-fiction involving robot stories. He started to write much before any robots are actually built and in fact found the term Robot. He laid out the three laws of robotics and each one of the robot stories are full of original ideas. |
I, Robot ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | A collection of Asimov's early robot stories. As always, the robots are acting the famous "Three Laws of Robotics".
All robot stories by Asimov are very original. It is usually very hard to guess the end of the story and usually surprises are waiting the readers. However, all stories are very consistent in themselves and also the "Three Laws" are strictly observed. |
The Robots of Dawn ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | An Elijah Baley novel.
A robot is "Murdered" and Elijah Baley will solve the mystery. The murder is related to the question of who will colonize the universe, man or robots. |
Foundation and Earth ![]()
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | The last book of the Foundation Saga. I do not think it is as brilliant as the first four books.
As the name tells, now they are trying to find Earth, the starting point of the galactic civilization. This book at the end brings Asimov's "Galactic History" to a complete cycle. Very good reading for an Asimov reader. But not a good starting point. |
