Welcome to Drucila's Page
Well Drucila is definately NOT a pet, she is part of the family. She loves to go on rides everywhere and she hates to be left home alone. At night her favorite thing to do is curl up in bed with me under my electric blanket, and during the warm summer days she loves to bask on to of our bird cages--of course--that's not when she is tryng to escape outside to the yummy hunnysuckle, and the fun climbing trees. She loves going to the park with us on hot days, and she likes to have picnics of her favorite food. Collard greens, and strawberry.
Care for an Iguana
FOOD Some people believe that if you throw in a can of dog or cat food a day to their iguana it is doing them good. NO, NO , NO!!!!!! Iguanas DO NOT need any form of ANIMAL PROTEIN. Infact, it eventually will kill them. Instead, they need lots of calcium. Drucila says, you should feed them, 70% greens 40% veggies 15-20% fruits DO NOT feed them a diet of lettuce, spinach, and cabbage, it is very bad for them. try stuff like, strawberries, kiwi, collard greens, papaya, mango, turnips, and other fruits.

HOUSING Iguana's need lot's of space to move around in, even if you bought your iguana as a baby I suggest you get it the largest cage for it now, because it will continue to grow, even if you put into a smaller cage. Drucila lives in a 300 gallon tank, but most of the time she is out of it. Anyways, some people prefer wire cages such as ferret cages, but as long as it is large enough for the iguana to live comfortably then it doesn't matter. The cage must have a warm basking area and a cool area so if they get over heated they can get away from the hot spot. Make sure there is a large water dish so your ig can go swimming if it wished, Drucila does not like to swim, she is strange. Also include many fake plants so your ig has a place to hide away if it would like. Also please provide a UV light. |
