Here is the inside of his journal. He seemed to practice his freehand throughout his journal (Submitted by Gary Linerode).

Here Joel Johnston writes "The White Pilgrim" which may be an original work of Joel's (Submitted by Gary Linerode).

Even though this page is hard to read, it has several birth dates for different individuals.  They appear to read:

Martha W(?)alker
>Born Sept the 1 1826
>Joel Johnson
>Born April the 23 1816
>Syntha Johnson
>Dec the 11 1845
>Warren Johnson
>Born January the 27(?) 1849
