My nephew painted the assembled mini with one coat of white primer and then a heavy coat of a metallic black base. It was then dry brushed where desired with a dark coat of gold and metallic gunmetal. The base was filled in with sand grains. When all was set, a coat of glaze was applied to protect and seal it.

The terrain piece was made of foam sealant that never hardened; my second attempt at such a piece. I'm not sure why it didn't work this time. I primed it in gray and then spray painted the non-road part with hunter green. I then allowed my nephew to paint it how he wanted; the grass part was touched up with hunter green paint and brown was added for the dirt.
