HALEY

I brush the tear off my cheek,
As I watch you fast asleep.
I close the door and walk away,
So many things I need to say,
I know I raised you well,
Deep inside me I can tell.
But mixed emotions envelope me,
Tears so heavy I cannot see.
I push them back inside.
Those tears I try to hide.

You’ve grown-up for this day.
Spread your wings and fly away.
Don’t look back at me.
Look ahead and see...
Your a woman now.
Grown up lady, somehow.

Outgrown your little pink Care Bear.
Barbie dolls with matted hair,
Tea sets now abandon too.
So much I remember of you.
Fireflies in your hands,
Building castles in the sand.
Playing dress up with your friends,
Thought those days would never end.
In your younger days.
Those childhood ways.

You’ve grown-up for this day.
Spread your wings and fly away.
Don’t look back at me.
Look ahead and see...
Your a woman now.
Grown up lady, somehow.

No longer playing hide and seek,
Count to ten, now don’t you peek.
Your bear house is now put away,
With other games you used to play.
Stored in boxes too,
Pictures of a baby you.
Frilly dresses with matching hats,
Oh don’t you remember that.
There’re all packed up too.
Those memories of you.

I look at you and see,
A version of a younger me.
With daddy’s added touch.
I love you so much. . .
Your a woman now.
Grown up lady, somehow.

What will I do when you go?
I hope the pain inside won’t show.
I’m really trying to set you free.
But your so much a part of me.
It’s hard letting you fly,
Giving you the space to try,
Ideas and dreams of your own,
All because your now grown.
I’ve got to let you go.
I’ve got to let you grow.

I look at you and see,
A version of a younger me.
With daddy’s added touch.
I love you so much. . .
Your a woman now.
Grown up lady, somehow.

I’ll blow a kiss in the wind,
Floating love that will never end.
Please try to catch it if you will.
Hold tight to morals that I instilled.
And never give up your dreams.
No matter how hard it seems.
Trust in God, He’ll always be there.
No matter what, we’ll always care.
Keep your head held high.
Remember it’s no sin to cry.

You’ve grown up - fly away.
It’s your very special day.
‘Cause you a woman now.
Grown up lady, somehow.
But to me you’ll always be.
My little angel, HALEY.
