Laurie’s Ballad

This here’s story is about Laurie,
Who wanted all her life to have a family.
Then one day, along came Phil,
Said “Will you marry me?”
And she said “I will.”

Marry you.
Have your kids.
Live happily.

After Laurie’s Pa signed the papers in her behalf,
Gave her to Phil, and he didn’t laugh
Said take of my baby girl or else, my son,
I’ll have to blow your head off, with this here shotgun.

30 gage.
Brand new.
Never been used.

Phil took care of Laurie just as he’d said.
‘Cause he had no desire, to be dead.
They loved one another, as anyone could see,
And soon they began, their happy family.

Kids,you know.
Young'uns.
Lots of ‘um.

First came a boy, a screamin healthy lad.
Hair was blond and curly, but looked like his dad.
Mom was so proud, as proud and proud can be.
Named her firstborn son, Kristopher Bobby!

Toehead.
Blond you see.
Skinny too.

A few years later, another son they had.
Sreamin like the first, looking somewhat like his dad.
He had no hair on top, just a fuzzy bit of fur,
Phil and his dad agreed, his name was Kyle Tyler.

Spitfire.
He was.
Small and wild.

Now Laurie, she was determined, to have a female child.
She wasn’t gonna have, just boys, running wild.
Her and Phil agreed it would be the thing to do,
And soon the Garis’ kids, were three instead of two.

Children,
Don’t ya see.
More the merrier.

The third child, a girl, wasn’t that just right,
A pretty baby girl, such a beautiful sight.
Now Ma was happy, as happy as could be,
And she named her daughter, Lexie Lea!

Middle name.
Like her Ma.
Both the same.

Years they went by, and the family grew strong.
There was some bickering, but mostly got along.
The boys were now young men, and the girl was growing too.
No longer needing Ma, like they used to do.

Lonely days.
Sittin at home.
Poor Ma.

Then one day as they sat amongst the crew.
Phil said to Laurie, “One more kid will do.”
They decided on a girl, ‘cause that would make it fair.
And wouldn’t it be nice, if she had curly hair!!!

Since Bub wouldn’t,
Grow his.
Long, you know.

And nine months later, Kyle was born again.
I mean the little girl, looked ‘xactly like him.
But that didn’t matter, she was cute as a bug they say,
And Ma decided to name the baby, Lillie Mae!

Keeping with the ‘L’s,
Gotta be.
Like the rest.

Now the story comes to an end, but not for very long.
The Garis boys from home, soon will all be gone,
Starting families of their own (after college days are through).
Then it will be time for Lexie Lea, to say “I DO”.

Not for a while.
Gotta grow a bit.
Still too young.

Lillie will be the last, to leave our merry nest.
Growing up the baby, sure must be the best.
Kristopher, Kyle and Lexie, will surely see.
“Lillie grew up so nice, just because of ME!”

That’s what they'll say.
All of'em.
You bet ‘cha.

Ya'll come back now.
When I finish the story.
Might take me a while.
