The Time Traders by Andre Norton
The Time Traders by Andre Norton

DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY OF TIME
Intelligence agents have uncovered something which seems beyond belief, but the evidence is incontrovertible: the USAs greatest adversary on the world stage is sending its agents back through time! And someone or something unknown to our history is presenting them with technologies -- and weapons -- far beyond our most advanced science. We have only one option: create time-transfer technology ourselves, find the opposition's ancient source...and take it dawn.

For this volume, Norton has updated The Time Traders and Galactic Derelict to take into account 40 years of political, social, and technological developments--such as computer games, a concluded cold war, and many more female characters in sf--without essentially changing them. In Time Traders, Ross Murdock has the choice of rehabilitation or volunteering for a secret research project, which turns out to be searching the past for the source of illicit technological innovations. In Galactic Derelict, Travis Fox stumbles on a time-travel project and has to be recruited for it; then he and his comrades take an involuntary trip aboard an alien starship that crashed on Earth before recorded history. The characters' can-do attitude and Norton's magic with a story have survived two generations in fine style, and these tales remain the same sort of quintessential fun as Star Wars, and with more intelligence.

Time Traders II by Andre Norton
Time Traders II by Andre Norton

This omnibus-volume reprint of two Norton novellas, The Defiant Agents and Key Out of Time, showcases the science fiction grand master's stylish way with a space-time adventure yarn. In a brave new future Earth, a doughty team of American Time Agents races evil Soviets to gain control of new worlds revealed by navigational tapes left 10,000 years earlier by the galactic-tripping Baldies, aliens who aimed at universal conquest. In The Defiant Agents, ethnic Apache Travis Fox and his team travel to Topaz, an arid planet where they must pit their newly awakened Amerindian racial memories against fierce Mongol descendants sent by the Russians to take over Topaz for themselves. Key Out of Time follows maverick Time Agent Ross Murdock to Hawaika, an aquatic world where he must unite three clashing cultures--Viking-like sea raiders, Dark Age land-based Wreckers and the mystic Foanna--to repel the Baldie baddies. Several of Norton's trademark touches, now familiar because of her strong influence on younger authors, enliven the Time Agent derring-dos, like the pair of telepathic coyotes who scout for Fox on Topaz and the similarly equipped merry dolphins who accompany Murdock's Polynesian sea maid on Hawaika. Given the space-time restrictions of the novella form, Norton's aliens, especially the elegant, elegaic Foanna, maintain their attraction.

Echoes in Time: A New Time Traders Adventure by Andre Norton and Sherwood Smith
Echoes in Time: A New Time Traders Adventure by Andre Norton and Sherwood Smith

In 1994's Firehand, Norton joined forces with P.M. Griffin to launch a revival of her 30-year-old Time Traders series; now, to continue it, shes taken on a fresh collaborator, Sherwood Smith, who worked with Norton on two Solar Queen yarns. Earth began to explore the galaxy in alien globe ships, but then had to foil an invasion attempt by the aggressive Baldies. Time-travel veterans Ross Murdock and his wife, Eveleen Riordan, now must learn to cooperate with their former rivals, the Russians, who took a beating in the Baldy attack. The Russians have lost a time-travel team on a distant planet where, eerily, archeologists uncovered a carving of a current time agent, the African musicologist Saba. The joint rescue mission arrives at the planet, finding numerous alien races devolved into animals. But back in the past when the Russian time-travelers were lost, the advanced Yilayil coexist with various other sapient races. The rescuer/investigators, however, soon fall sick. The Yilayil immediately recognize Saba and take her for special training, while the others search for the missing Russians and try to figure out what's going on. Ross, Eveleen, and companions get sicker and sicker before Saba learns how to make contact with the planet's plant-consciousness, which views all intelligent animals as enemies and produces spores to devolve them into harmless crittershence the sickness. Then the Baldies attack. A much-improved, if more thoughtful re-revival, with believable aliens, a reasonable time-travel rationale, and properly worked-out consequences.

Atlantis Endgame by Andre Norton and Sherwood Smith

In Atlantis Endgame, a Time Program archeologist discovers an earring buried during the 1600 B.C. eruption of the island Thera that destroyed the prevailing Minoan culture. Alarmingly, the earring is of 20th–century origin…and belongs to Eveleen. Did she die in the Bronze Age? And since the Baldies are known to use the timestream for their benefit, did they alter Thera’s history to prevent humans from one day entering space? For Ross and Eveleen, the answers lie in a perilous journey back to the mythical site of Atlantis.
