Fiction Titles

Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe

Arrow of God - Chinua Achebe. This book won the New Statesman-Jock Campbell Award, but I can't find any information on the award.

The Talented Mr. Ripley - Patricia Highsmith - I saw the movie finally and saw the many references to being gay in the movie that I never really saw in the book though our professor said they were there.

The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank - Erma Bombeck

Hinds' Feet On High Places - Hannah Hurnard - This is a great book written in allegoric reference to the journey of a Christian individual to get closer to God.

The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath - This book is supposed to be a fictional "autobiography" of the life of Sylvia Plath.

Watership Down - Richard Adams - EXCELLENT book. I love his imagery and imagination! I have to say that this is indeed one of my favorite books.

Last Days of Summer - Steve Kluger - Very funny book. I laughed out loud many times while reading this. It's written as letters to a baseball player from a young fan and vice versa. The player's girlfriend and the fan's friend also get in a few letters of their own.

The Catcher In the Rye - J.D. Salinger

The Testament - John Grisham

To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee

Icy Sparks - Gwyn Hyman Rubio - This book is on Oprah's list. It's the only one from that list I've read. Most of the others sound incredibly depressing. This book was funny.

Unveiled - Francine Rivers - The first in the Lineage of Grace series. Each book in the series is about a woman in the Bible. This book is on Tamar, daughter-in-law of Judah.

Unashamed - Francine Rivers - The second book in the Lineage of Grace series. This one is about Rahab the prostitute from Jericho who risks her life to help the Israelites.

The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver - A tale of the Congo told from 5 different perspectives. The characters with voices are the 4 daughters and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister, all of whom live in the Congo where he serves as a missionary. I found this to be a distinctly compelling novel which reminded me of my time in Suriname, South America.

Little Altars Everywhere - Rebecca Wells - The prequel to The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe - Fannie Flagg
