Globular cluster 47 Tucanae

Globular cluster 47 Tucanae
47 Tucanae is the second largest and brightest of all globular clusters in our galaxy - only surpassed by Omega Centauri. Its diameter is nearly 120 light years across. At a distance of 13,400 ly, this massive cluster still covers an area of the sky about the same apparent diameter as the full moon.
Globular cluster 47 Tucanae is approaching us at roughly 19 km/s. Since 47 Tucanae is visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy star, the name indicates that this object was first cataloged as the 47th star in the southern constellation of Tucana.
