Are you bored with styling your hair the same way every day? Then it is time for you to try out some cool `special effects'. The right look could become your signature.
"The best way to go about it would be styling and colouring," suggest hair stylists in the city.
Did you always long for that cool brown streak, but were reluctant because of the maintenance hassles? For all those who are worried about the damage hair colour can cause to your hair, here is the golden solution. Hair enhancers can solve all such problems. With hair enhancers you can not only add colour to your hair, but also lengthen the tresses and bounce without the fear of permanent damage.
Remember Aishwarya's dark long tresses in Devdas? "Her hair is not that long and she didn't even wear a wig. That was the magic of hair enhancers," reveals Satya Prema of DoUp beauty clinic.
The best thing about hair enhancers is that you are not stuck with something you don't want later. Conventional hair colouring involves extensive hair care, such as conditioning, subsequent touch-up as the hair grows and the problem of colours fading. Contrary to this, hair enhancers are waterproof acrylic coloured strands that you can braid into your natural hair at a salon and remove whenever you want.

These are synthetic hair extensions, which are washable and manageable. While conventional hair colouring involves the use of strong chemicals and lengthy procedures, hair enhancement is a technique that essentially involves the use of mono-fibre strands that are readily available and blend naturally with existing hair. "Depending on the number of strands the customer wants, the process varies from 10 minutes to six hours," says Satya.
The hair strands come in 30 shades. It also comes in natural hair colour shades, which gives the desired volume and bounce to the hair. But if you want to add flashes of colour, all you need is to get the strand in the required colour braided at the hair salon. Shocking colours - blue, pink and pastels - are in this season. The softer hues of copper, caramel, reds and browns are the popular choice.
To give a natural look, the enhancers are normally placed about one centimetre below the parting on either side of the head and then blended.
To add length, the enhancers are placed 1cm away from the hairline in a brickwork fashion. To add body, about 10 enhancers are placed on either side of the head, following a line from the temple area to the back of the head.
"If you want to throw a party and plan to dress up and look funky for that great night, this is an ideal solution.
Unlike hair colours, enhancers can be pulled off after the event, so that you get back the formal look for office!" says Satya.
These extensions are undetectable and light on the hair. Unlike normal hair colour that fades over a period and requires some touching up near the roots as the hair grows, hair enhancers are waterproof and do not lose colour. Moreover, you move about as freely in the harsh sun, swim and shampoo your hair as normal. You can wash or oil your hair like you normally do!
Men are equally concerned about their crowning glory though there is not much brouhaha on the hair care issue. They are also trying out new shades that give an interesting look for special occasions like wedding or engagement parties when everybody wants to look gorgeous.
"Unlike wigs hair enhancers give that natural look that can add bounce to the hair." You can get adventurous and try some great styling without worrying about what it could do to your hair. So, don't be surprised if you see people turning up with blonde and violet streaks in the hair.
