WISE MOVE BY CHELSEA

Dennis Wise will join Chelsea's coaching staff when his playing days are over. The 33-year-old Stamford Bridge skipper has signed a new-one year extension to his contract that will take him up to 2003. It is then expected he will hang up his boots and become part of the backroom team.

''Dennis is Chelsea through and through and believes he has an extra year in him as a player,'' managing director Colin Hutchison told ClubCall. ''We have extended his contract to 2003, which he believes will take him to the end of his playing career.

''He has indicated he wants to stay on in the game and when he stops playing we will offer him a coaching contract. Dennis is very much part of the Chelsea family and has helped integrate our foreign players into the club.''

Wise helped Chelsea lift the FA Cup last season in what was arguably his best time for the club after joining them from Wimbledon for ¢G1.6m 10 years ago. He was rewarded for his efforts by being called into the England squad for their Euro 2000 campaign.
