My
first experience with a Hell's Nail's fingerboard was
quite a while ago. That first experience was with the
'regular' version. While not much different, the Steep
Series does offer a much steeper kick (as expected).
Hell's
Nail's fingerboards are unique in that they have been
designed to work best with 'truck pads'. These pads are
typically made from a barrel eraser that are cut in half
and taped to the bottom of the board and despite their
'low tech' appearance work very well. In addition, no
griptape is required. The material the boards are made
of sticks to your fingertips naturally.
Shown
above is the blue Steep series board I purchased for review
(also purchased was the green version, but have yet to
set it up). Having used the standard kick version of this
board for quite some time I found it easy to get used
to the steeper kick. I do have to say that it took some
time to get used to the originals almost instant pop
