Vis Distillation

"Although the Archmagus Marianus has been credited with the actual discovery of vis distillation, several Sodalis suspect that, in his fervor to publicize (and sell) his great discovery at the 1207 Rhine Tribunal gathering, Marianus overlooked several dangerous shortcommings. The Criamon Magus Inigo Penumbra was later acknowledged to have improved upon Marianus' method by recognizing and warning of its dangers."
-Anonymous Magus after the 1214 Tribunal-

"It's really quite simple as long as you know what you're doing..."
-Magus Inigo Penumbra scholae Criamonis ex Caverna Umbrae Torquentes-

Our Saga uses the vis distillation rules listed in the 4th edition rulebook (p.82) with a limitation of one Season of safe distillation per year. Any additionnal attempts within the same year require rolling a number of botch dice equal to the number of pawns of vis extracted during that season. A zero on any die reduces the magical Aura by one. Note that the reduction is by one point no matter how many zeroes are rolled for that Season.

Although not a spell per se, the technique of vis distillation can be learned (from a suitable tutor or text) as a 7th magnitude Creo Vim spell.

Vis Transmutation

"Whaddayamean we don't have enough vis for the 8th magnitude Aegis ?!?"
-Off the record comment by a Magus of Animus Lupi-

We have also kept the "Change the Nature of Vis" Ritual from the 3rd edition rules. The use of this Ritual is stymied by the amount of Vim vis that can be accessed through distillation. Also, as a Ritual, it is rather costly giving one pawn of the desired vis for every two pawns invested.

Twilight

The exposure to magic beginning at a young age is the chief reason why magi do not live forever
-Unknown scholae Bonisagi

The accumulation of Twilight points begins as soon as apprenticeship is begun. For every 5 points in the Vim art, all magi gain 1 twilight point. They do not wait until after using their longevity potion to begin accumulating twilight points.
