WWF RAW is WAR Report: 12/17/01 - The pyros hit and Jim Ross introduces us to RAW from Lafayette, Louisiana. We quickly cut to WWF New York where Matt Hardy is eating. - On tap for tonight is Chris Jericho vs. Rob Van Dam for the undisputed world championship belt as well as three other title matches.
- Back in the arena, the Undertaker makes his way down to the ringside area on his motorcyle. The crowd actually pops for him which I guess is a problem since he's a heel. Tonight he defends the Hardcore championship against Jeff Hardy. With that said, Jeff makes his way down accompanied by Lita. JR quickly goes over the rules - no DQ, falls count anywhere. As soon as Jeff enters the ring, Undertaker attacks him and roughs him up in the ring corner. He yells out "You will respect me, boy" and continues to aggressively dominate Hardy. A kick to the face drops Jeff but Taker loses his momentum when he fails to capitalize on an elbow drop. Jeff manages to drop kick Taker on to the outside and comes flying with a modified baseball slide. Hardy heads to the top but Taker catches him and pushes him into the ringside barricade. Undertaker continues to man handle Jeff and picks up a steel chair and drives it right into Hardy's head. Finally, Taker sends Jeff back inside the ring and starts kicking him around and basically showing his dominance. A couple right hands and Jeff is again down on the mat. Taker goes for the Last Ride and succeeds but Lita heads to the top. She appears to slip and Taker instead turns around and glares at her. Lita backs off and gets down and Undertaker just turns around and pins Jeff. - After the match, Lita is helping Jeff get back up but Taker decides to re-enter the ring and throws Jeff right over the top rope. He then picks up Jeff over his right shoulder and heads to the ramp area with Lita following slowly behind. Taker yells at Lita "This is on your conscience. This is on you". Taker then turns around and Last Ride's Jeff off the stage. He then grabs Lita by the hair and throws her off the stage too. At WWF NY, Matt Hardy can't believe his eyes. - We come back and see Matt Hardy on the phone talking to someone inquiring about the status of Lita and Jeff Hardy. He states "is she breathing, is she conscious" but doesn't appear to get an answer. - Back in the arena, Vince McMahon makes his way down to the ringside area. Vince asks for some southern hospitality in light of the constant boos he is receiving. He says that you all must believe him when he says that Stone Cold Steve Austin is a certified lunatic. He talks about what happened on Smackdown! with Austin being the fireman and assaulting him and Booker T. He talks about Austin chasing Booker T to the grocery store and we see clips of the incident. Vince says that he has one more thing to get off his chest. He calls out Austin and out comes the Texas Rattlesnake. The crowd chants "WHAT" and Vince says he hates that word. Vince then whispers to Austin "I hate you too". Austin grabs the mic and Vince says that he wants Austin to apologize to Booker T for what he did. Austin says "what", "you want me to apologize to Booker T. You want me to say I'm sorry?". Austin says he was nice enough to take that youngster on a shopping spree and ultimately did Booker T a favor. Fans are chanting "what" after every phrase Austin spews out. Austin says he came to Lafayette and lists off some Cajun food he ate along with one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine beers. He said he isn't drunk yet, he's just getting started. Austin says him saying sorry to Booker T just won't happen and he has nothing more to say Vince McMahon because he's the biggest piece of crap he's ever seen. Austin asks the fans if they want to see him open up a can of whoop ass on Austin, gimme a hell yeah. Before he can, we see Booker T on the Titan Tron. He's with Austin's truck and has a bat or some other weapon and smashes the passenger side window. Austin runs out of the ring, presumably in search of Booker T and his truck. - We come back and see a replay of what just happened. - During the commercial, Booker T has the pipe and is ready to smash the lights out next but he spots Austin come running at him and hops in his car and jets off. Stone Cold hops in his truck and chases after him.
- Back in the arena, Albert and Scotty Too Hotty make their way out for the upcoming tag team title match. The Dudley Boyz emerge next accompanied by Stacy Keibler. Scotty and D-Von start things off. Bubba gets in a cheap shot on Scotty before the two lock up and this allows D-Von to gain the immediate advantage. He works on Scotty with punches and a bodyslam and then tags out to Bubba. Bubba with an elbow drop and a cover, but he only gets a two. A traditional suplex also gets only two. He tags back to D-Von and the two use their tandem to wear down Scotty. They go for another cover but Albert breaks the count. As the referee is distracted, Stacy Keibler gets in a shot at the fallen Scotty. Scotty then attempts to fight back but Bubba holds him off before running straight into a kick. Both men are out which predictably leads to the hot tag to Albert. Albert demolishes D-Von and Bubba for a while and puts on a giant spin on D-Von. A blind tag by Scotty and he nails Bubba with a top rope drop kick. Scotty then swings Albert straight into D-Von, which allows him to set up for the Worm. He manages to execute the worm and goes for the three count but only gets a two. In the ring, Stacy has entered and has taken off her boot attempting to nail Albert with it. Albert instead catches her and plants a big kiss on her, allowing Bubba to attack Albert from behind. With Albert incapacitated, the Dudley Boyz nail the 3-D on Scotty and score the pinfall. - Backstage, Vince McMahon is smiling and watching on the TV screen. He's on the phone to Booker T and Booker assures him that he got rid of Austin. Vince says that was nice and Booker asks him to guess where he is. Vince says he doesn't know and Booker says he's at a place where Austin would never guess. He's at church. Vince tells Booker to say a little prayer for Stone Cold. - We're back with Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross. Ross talks about the Friday passing of Russ Haas. Lawler says all the federation's thoughts and prayers are with Russ' family and friends, including his brother Charlie who is an employee of WWFE.
- Christian make his way to the ring in anticipation of his European title defense against Tazz. We see clips of Sunday Night Heat which saw a confrontation between the two men which led to the signing of this match. Next, Tazz walks down the ring and as soon as he enters, Christian attacks him and pushes him into one of the ring corners. Several punches, followed by a choke drop Tazz and Christian continues to work on him with his boot. Tazz gets up and starts fighting back but Christian rakes his eyes and pushes him into the opposite corner. Tazz fights back briefly but is stopped by Christian who then runs into the ropes but is caught by a Tazz suplex. Christian goes for the Unprettier but Tazz reverses it into the Tazsmission. Christian breaks that via a low blow and hits the Unprettier for the 1-2-3 pinfall. - After the match, Christian talks trash to Tazz and attempts to hit him with the belt, but Tazz ducks and puts on the Tazzmission. Tazz leaves the ring, with Christian laying on the mat. - Backstage, reporter Helms is interviewing Ric Flair. Helms asks Flair for comments about him saving Torrie Wilson last week. Lance Storm interrupts and says that this is ridiculous. Storm asks Flair for another chance since he didn't know who he was facing the last two times. Flair says be careful what you wish for because tonight he is wrestling the Rock. - We come back with JR and Lawler plugging next week's RAW which will be a special featuring the top 10 voted matches of 2001. - Backstage, Rob Van Dam is getting ready for his match when Vince McMahon walks in. Vince says he wishes RVD luck and RVD appreciates it. Vince says that Ric Flair can't make decisions on his own - he has to ask Vince. Vince says that he felt Van Dam deserved this title shot and if he wins tonight, he feels like they both would get along very well. RVD says that he doesn't think that they would be a very good team because you're Vince and "I'm Rob Van Dam". Vince gets angry and says that he hopes Jericho kicks Van Dam's butt tonight and he'll be the guest commentator tonight at ringside. - Backstage we see a bingo game going on and Booker T is there with some senior citizens. He asks them to speed things up. Booker is frustrated and switches his card with the old lady next to him while she's not looking. He starts getting the numbers called and then blows up at a lady behind him telling her to shut up. A male voice comes up saying the next number is A316, as in Austin 3:16. Booker T sees Austin calling the number and runs away. The next number leads to a win by the woman beside Booker T, the same lady who had Booker T's original game card. - We're back at the church with Booker T running frantically and trying to hide from Austin. He tries to hide between the church seats but couldn't fit. He then hides behind a desk/table but hears a knock at the door so he then gets out and puts on a gown. He stands still and tries to pass by as a regular church citizen or a statue but changes his mind. Finally, he runs out of the room looking for another place to hide.
- Back in the arena, the Rock makes his way down the ring followed by Lance Storm. The two lock up with some usual wristlocks and reversals. Rock gets the upperhand by clotheslining Storm and then sending him flying over the top rope. On the outside, Rock throws Storm's head into the announce table and grabs a headset and says that you have to respect a guy like Storm who is trying to get a job. He yaps for a bit longer. Back in the ring, Rock continues to control the offense of the match but Storm catches him with a superkick to the fact. Storm now with the advantage, hitting Rock with a clothesline and getting a two count. Rock fights back with punches but Storm counters with punches of his own. Both men are now down but Rock gets up first and hits more punches to Storm's head. He hits a DDT but gets a two count on Lance. Lance attempts to kick Rock but Rock ducks and Storm instead hits the ref. The Rock then slips on the Sharpshooter and Lance taps but Test comes running down and interferes. He hits the pumphandle slam and throws Lance on top of him. The referee comes to and goes for the count but Rock puts his shoulder up at two. Storm attacks Rock but runs right into a spinebuster. Test comes back and Rock takes care of him on the outside shoving him into the guard rail. Lance out and Rock punches him to but as he is turned around, Test catches him with a clothesline. Lance slips back in and the referee counts out the Rock. Lance Storm wins via countout and JR and The King are quick to point out that this means that Storm now has a job. - After the match, the Rock comes back confronting Tim White, the referee, but understands and lets Tim go. LAnce is still celebrating with the Rock stalking him for the Rock Bottom. Storm gets down, sees the Rock and backs into a corner. With the crowd chanting for him, the Rock extends a handshake and Storm shakes his head hesitantly. Rock then uses the opportunity to hit the Rock Bottom. - Backstage, Chris Jericho is walking around with his two titles. - Back at the church, it shows a lady confessing to a sin in the confessional. Booker T is hiding in the booth, acting as the priest ("father"). The woman says she committed adultery on her husband with his brother and his best friend. She says they had a video camera and everything. Booker T says "tell me you didn't just say that child". Booker T tells her to go home, do 18 Hail Marys and to send him the videotape to his address. The confused woman asks if everything will be all right after that and with a grin, he responds yes. - Back in the arena, Chris Jericho enters the arena. He takes a mic and tells us that he's Chris Jericho and he's the undisputed champion of the WWF. He reminds us that he beat Austin and Rock back-to-back followed by beating Austin again the next night. He says he's the man, period. Unfortunately he says, he won't be able to perform tonight because he refuses to defend against Rob Van Dam. Jericho wonders why RVD deserves a title shot. Jericho says that RVD is a liar and a cheater and he has footage to prove it. We see clips of their match from last Thursday when RVD used a chair to pin Jericho. He adds that Van Dam is probably scared of him and questions why Ric Flair would allow this act to go unpunished. He demands that Flair come down to reverse the Smackdown! decision and to cancel the match scheduled for tonight. Ric Flair's music hits and the Nature Boy walks down to the ring where Jericho awaits him. Flair says that even though Jericho is the WWF champion, he is the owner and his decision is no. He asks Jericho if he remembers that Jericho is the one who brought the chair to the ring in the first place. It's not his fault that RVD used it. He saw the 1-2-3 and so in his mind, Van Dam is the #1 contender. Whether RVD is worthy of such an accolade, we will find out tonight. Jericho says that he should sue Flair for insinuating he brought in the chair. Jericho says that he knows why Flair is acting like this - he's jealous. He believes Flair wishes he was the undisputed champion and he wants to be Jericho. Jericho tells him to get over his mid life crisis and to start living up to his responsibilities of being co-owner of the WWF. Flair is upset at the mid life crisis comment. He takes off his jacket and said that he already had that ten years ago. He says the final decision is that tonight Jericho will in fact defend his title and he takes off his shirt to reveal a referee outfit. Flair will be the special ref in the match.
- We are back with Edge coming down to ringside to compete in a tag team match. His partner, Rikishi, walks out next, followed by one of their opponents, Kurt Angle. He swings Tajiri to the other corner but runs straight into a kick. Tajiri takes control now and uses some kicks to knock Chuck down. However, he soon gets caught in a belly to belly suplex which allows Palumbo to tag out to Billy Gunn. Gunn stomps away on Tajiri, followed by more punches and kicks. Gunn taunts Show before tagging Palumbo. Bodyslam by Palumbo before another quick tag. Gunn with a double team bulldog type maneuver and yet another quick tag back to Chuck Palumbo.
