The cheapest English paper around. Many articles come from Reuters and the AP, and much is translated from the Japanese Yomiuri, but it also carries supplements from popular magazines and United States and British newspapers on a weekly basis. They also sponsor Hyogo AJET.

If you have access to the internet and you want to save some trees, it is probably a better idea to just check the news online.
There are a number of Japan-specific online news sites to choose from:
