THE SOURCE'S 2ND ANNUAL POWER 30

#8: Hype Williams

Single-handedly changing the face of rap video, Hype Williams
transformed hip-hop music from what was once an aural medium to one
that is just as visual. His mini-movies for Busta Rhymes' "Put Your
Hands.../Dangerous," Missy Elliot's "I Can't Stand The Rain," and
B.I.G.'s "Mo' Money Mo' Problems," for example, have translated into
millions of records sold. But with the growing number of MTV, BET and
local video show audiences, the much-sought after and bltantly imitated
director has the unique power to propel an otherwise mediocre song to
platinum heights.
