| in 1993 Mark Hoppus moved to San Diego , california. Mark's sister was already living in San Diego and was dating a friend of Tom Delonge. In Marks second day in San Diego his sister introduced Mark to Tom instantly they clicked mark says that tom was like ''a seperated brother from the day that they met'' and so BLINK was formed they found drummer Scott Raynor who was a quiet younger kid from Tom's school. This is how Tom and Mark say that they formed but this is debated by Scott who says that himself and Tom started the band then mark "just fell into place". He seems quite bitter towards blink-182 now and says that Mark and Tom are busy re-writing the blink 182 history book.It doesn't really matter how blink 182 came together they did and it worked nearly 10 years on blink 182 are still together. well nearly the band now contains Tom Delonge Mark hoppus and new drummer Travis Barker (former aquabats drummer). In 1993 the band released an album recorded in Marks garage called Flyswatter. In 1994 they released the album buddha. This is when blink changed there name to blink-182 because of a irish techno band called blink. There is no reason for the 182 they were just 3 numbers chosen at random so now with a new name in 1995 blink 182 released there third album Cheshire Cat. In 1996 blink 182 took a year out of album recording to tour with NoFx and pennywise on the warped tour.1997 saw another blink 182 album release a album goin by the name of Dude ranch. This album also saw the first of blink 182's videos to be shown on mtv these included Dammit and Josie ( the video for m+m was banned by MTV as they thought the gun fight at the end was not type of video they wanted to show ). 1998 saw the album Enema of the state blink 182's popularity was still growing with blink-182's first uk number one with the single ''All the small things''. this year also saw the Scott Raynor leave the band and the recrutment of Travis Barker. In late 2001 blink 182 released there live album ''The Mark Tom and Travis show'' (enema strikes back). In 2001 the release of their new album '' Take of your pants and jacket'' with the singles rock show and first date grew blink-182 even more fans. In 2002 blink 182 are touring with greenday and jimmy eat world on the pop disaster tour. At the start of the year they disapointed the British fans when they had to cancel their UK tour.In 2001 they prosponed it because of the september 11th atacks on america in January 2002 they were forced to cancel after Tom slipped a disc in his back he had to have surgery and was told not to walk for 8 weeks. Tom has now recoverd and is playing again. Tom and Travis have started a new band called BOXCAR RACER this is not the end of blink 182 just another chapter in the blink story.For more about Boxcar Racer click here. Sinse i wrote that Travis has started a new "super-group" called the transplants other members in this band are Tim Armstrong (rancid) and Rob Aston (rancid roadie). They have recently released there debut and what looks like last album but i warn you do not buy this album if you are expecting it to be anything like blink-182 or boxcar racer. The Transplants are a punk/hip-hop mix. |
