Viva NIEMAND

Cha Bum

Niemand of the Month

DECEMBER 1998

You may think it's a bit too late to select Mr Cha as the Niemand of the month. The World Cup 1998 finished long time ago and Korean Football Association announced his five-year ban from the domestic league months ago. But, what the hell, he is just a right person to be a niemand.

Rememer the time when he used to be a national hero? He played in Germany from 1979 to 1989. His record of 98 goals in 308 matches in Germany still stands as a best by a foreigner in the Bundesliga. And the two clubs he played for (Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen) won the UEFA Cup while he was with them. Cha also played for Korea in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Now he is banned in Korea only because he lost a few matches in France and was not loyal enough to make those big-shots of Korean Football Association happy...

I don't know about Cha's personality or relationships with other people. But I do know that those "Association" people of Korean sports are very much talented to expell talented sportsmen.
