As I grew more frustrated, I started to feel angry over my indecision. Then I felt angry because I was angry! I felt like stomping my feet and having a temper tantrum, right there in the middle of the kitchen. And then I silently said a prayer in desperation, "No. I don't want to resort to two year old behavior, especially not in front of my two year old daughter." |
Then that quick, in that moment, I had a new idea. Stomping can be for fun. A peace overcame me, and I thought, "Yes, I like that." |
I put Jessica back down on the floor and told her, "We can make our own thunder." And I started stomping my feet. Then I reached out and held her hands and she started stomping her feet too. And she started giggling. |
"And we can say boom, boom, boom," I added. |
"Boom, boom, boom," we chanted together, as we stomped our feet. |
In that moment, Jessica was happy again. She was having fun making her own thunder! Off she ran back to the living room to play. |
I returned to making dinner; a much happier person myself. The chicken was a bit burnt, but it didn't matter so much anymore. I had had fun making thunder too, especially with Jessica. |
