Turbo

forced by- compressing air in the intake manifold using a snail housing and bladed compressor.
efficiency- very efficient, 80-90%+ properly sized and matched components. also know as free hp, boost can be made at powerband RPM when setup properly without loss
parasitic hp loss- none, exhaust pressure driven
driven by- exhaust pressure compresses to drive a turbine which is connected with a shaft to another turbine which does the opposite, compress intake air. no parasitic loss
size- small, but turbo requires a exhaust intake, exhaust out, intake input and intake output plumbing, oil line, and other air/fuel, boost, and other hardware and software. very hard and expensive in custom form, stock engine kit-form much cheaper if avaliable but limited boost level
noise- minor intake suck noise, blow-off valve
setup-hard (depends), need custom exhaust manifold if none, rerouting intake and exhaust plumbing, need hardware and software to control boost, air/fuel and detonation.
intercoolerable-yes, air-air, air-water (air to water is preferred) and Cali racers... intercoolers are illegal yo
installation- hard (depends), see setup
remove engine- preferred
change boost- regulated by bypassing exhaust gases with a wastegate after XX boost desired, boost can vary from 0 to whatever the turbo can handle, versus constant boost from superchargers.
primary quality- no parasitic hp loss
bad quality- turbo lag, exhaust gases at first need to build pressure to spin turbine, high heat
used for- long range, reliable boost, long races
used to- add hp, torque
power range (RPM)- 2000+, depending on car engine size and turbo size, turbo lag may raise the boost RPM to a higher value, in order for enough exhaust to compress and spin the turbo.
found on- European cars, i guess due to higher altitudes, Saab, Volvo, some import cars, mid-80`s Dodges, buses, most large transportations, emissions limit turbo use, usually found as turbo diesel. there are only a few street-legal turbo kits. California regulates like crazy, so be careful.
strip- banned from v-8 drag racing for being too effective, found popularly on import cars
street- very streetable, being you can manipulate boost easy
track- on and off, some kind of ban usually found, some not. highly effective for long range races.
