Pirin

This is most beautiful mountain in my country. It is southern neighbour of Rila mountain. The north part is a high ridge with north-west to south-east orientation. It begins with Pirin peak high about 2550m. Going to South, one passes several other peaks and step-by-step climbs up to 2800 m a.s.l. This is exceptionally beautiful Karst ridge of Pirin. There are passes as narrow as 1 meter on the ridge. The peaks here are Kamenitica (2720m), Bajuvi dupki (2820m), Banski Suhodol (2882m), Kutelo (2908m). Next peak is Vihren (the highest of the mountain - 2914m). It looks like a big pyramid with 400m high northern vertical wall. The peak is object of winter alpinism. Vihren is the last peak of Karst part of the mountain. The kingdom of the water and the glacier lakes begins now. Several glacier circuses follow from both sides of the ridge. And, every one hides three-four lakes. Some of them even more. Each circus has its own look - one is full with stones while another is level and ready for sun-bathes.

This is a view of Pirin's Karst ridge as seen from North-West Rila (46k). The second picture shows the highest peaks in Pirin mountain. They look as two giants that rule all around because are nearly 200m higher than their neighbours (63k). Vihren can be climbed from the hostels Vihren (1950m - 2:30h) or Bunderiza (1750m - 3:00h).

Tevno ezero (lake). Situated in the heart of mountain at 2512m a.s.l., it is most beautiful place in Pirin. The lake is surrounded by chain of peaks - Momin dvor (2725), Kralev dvor (2680), Malka (Little) Kameniza, Kameniza (2822). (113k, 114k). Momin dvor is a junction of the main ridge and the high rocky Polezhan ridge. Jengal is a beautiful peak next to Momin dvor (2730m). Here is a picture of Jengal with its north vertical slope. Its black rocks serve alpine tours. My Number One peak. (86k). Going to the East after Jengal peak, one can reach the Strazhi. This is narrow rocky part of the ridge. Passed with ease in summertime it becomes fearful in wintertime.

Sinanica peak, 2516m. Many peoples say that it is most beautiful peak in Bulgaria. The peak is white like the Karst ridge but stays isolated to the West from it. One may see almost the whole ridge of the mountain. The picture shows its 200m high vertical wall. Sinanica together with Momin dvor encloses a small circus with one lake in it.

Tiyacite (Tijacite) is situated in the valley of Demjanica river. It was a glacier lake in the past (thousands years ago). Year after year the lake was filled with stones and sand. Now the river flows silently here and no sound can be heard if the wind is away. The word Tiyacite means the silent place in the dialect of the native people of Bansko town. One may forget to leave this place if comes here.
