Where can I get a copy of this movie?

If you don't know anyone who has a copy, you can check your library or video rental store to borrow Lawrence of Arabia -- they will most likely have it. Or you can buy a copy from a video or movie-themed store, or on-line at amazon. I suggest you buy it rather than borrow/rent it, because you will want to keep it. And, the picture and sound quality will be better on a new video, so you will gain the most out of your first experience watching this movie. However, I suggest you also look into your local theaters that may run older movies and find out if they will be showing Lawrence of Arabia -- I strongly recommend seeing this movie in a theater if you can. Although I haven't seen it in a showhouse, I know the experience is quite different from a television.

Is widescreen better?

I have only seen Lawrence of Arabia in the letterbox ('widescreen') format. And I would never want to see it any other way. Yes, widescreen is always better -- you get the whole picture the way it was meant to be seen. Don't like widescreen? --You probably need a bigger television. I wish more people were choosey about this, so that more videos become available in widescreen.

Shouldn't I see it in a movie theater?

Are you losing something by watching this movie on a television monitor? Of course you are. I *want* to see this film in a movie theater. I want to feel like I am *in* the desert (this worked for The English Patient), looking across its vastness. I want the sun to appear huge. Unfortunately, Lawrence of Arabia probably will *not* be playing at your local theater. But look around -- maybe you have a showhouse that plays older films. Find out if they will be showing this movie. If you cannot see this movie in the theater, then rent it (widescreen only!). The one good thing about a television screen is that the picture is probably sharper.

How can I stand a nearly 4-hour long movie?

If you have never seen a movie this long, you may have difficulty sitting through it. If you are getting tired, stop watching it, and come back to it later. You won't enjoy this movie if you can't give it your full attention. This movie is very entertaining, though, and it has an intermission, so you will probably be able to watch the entire movie easily if you have seen longer movies before. The first time I watched it, I watched it twice in one day! It's that good! Just make sure you are comfy and aren't distracted by something else while watching.

Would I enjoy Lawrence of Arabia?

I cannot guarantee that you will love this movie, because I don't know anything about you! You will love this movie if you like beautiful movies, movies based/focused on a real person, or movies about cultural as well as personal/internal conflicts. Here are a few questions to ask yourself, to see if you might love this movie. Even if you say no to everything here, I still suggest you watch Lawrence of Arabia. There are many other things about this movie you may enjoy -- I do believe that you will like this movie, if not love it.
