Chapter 1
I woke up to the soothing sounds of the musical alarm playing a song I recognised vaguely, for my first morning at this magical place I had chosen for my vacation destination. All my friends had laughed at me when I said I was going to a place called, of all things, Fantasy Island. I had seen reruns of a show called that on Cable TV and always thought it was a bit cheesy, but the brochure on this place did sound magical, only because it promised sun, fresh air and total relaxation.
After my break up with my former boyfriend of a few years only weeks ago, I wanted to get away. This was my treat to myself since I had been working so hard lately. And who knows, maybe a nice young eligible guy would be here too. I wasn't averse to a little romance. I was a sucker for romance.
I stretched my arms above my head and looked out the window. A street sweeper was slowly but quietly making it's way up the sidewalk in the distance. I looked closer and a young child was playing beside the pool, trying to decide which toy he was going to take in for a swim. I smiled to myself at the simplicity of his young life. A lady watched on sitting in the shade of the palm trees, her ever vigilant eye on who was probably her son.
I turned away, and decided to get ready for breakfast. I had 4 days here and instead of doing any chores of any sort, I had decided to bring a change of clothes for each day. I was promised that the weather would be glorious every day, and if today's sky was anything to go by, I was sure it would be.
The radio DJ had a big announcement. The Backstreet Boys were going to be in town today, for one day only, to do an interview with the radio station. "Oh No," I thought. "That would be the end of the peace and quiet." I knew of this groups music, but not what they looked like. Hopefully I would be able to stay away from them and keep my peaceful day in tact.
I chose an outfit of shorts and a soft coloured T-shirt to go with it. Slip-on shoes completed my simple outfit. Everything was going to be easy for me this week. I collected my purse, checking I had my key. The card that was my key sparkled at me as I picked it up. What a pretty card they had here, almost magical. Most times they were very dreary.
I walked down to the elevator, nodding at an elderly gentleman as I went. He smiled at me and spoke to me. "It's going to be a beautiful day, remember to wear your sun block." He said.
I smiled back at him. "Thank you, I will." I said and continued on my way. The elevator had a young woman with a baby in her arms. "Hi, it looks like a wonderful day today," I said to her.
"Oh they always are here," She said.
"You come here a lot?"
"I live here," she told me. "Ever since Corey here was first born. I looked at Corey in her arms and figured that wasn't very long, because he didn't look very old. But I wasn't about to question her.
The dining room serving breakfast was very airy and spacious, but very full. Food was lined up on the left side of the room and it all looked and smelled delicious. We were to choose our own food, and the drinks were served. I was shown to a table close to the food which was not really my choice, but it would do me for today, They did look busy.
Right then I felt as if someone was looking at me. I looked up and saw the most gorgeous pair of blue eyes smiling at me. "Hello, do you mind if I join you, it seems there are no single seats left and I am starving."
I thought for a second, those smiling eyes never stopping. I couldn't help but smile back at him. "Of course. We can't have you starving now can we?"
He sat down on the other side of the table and I was drawn to his movements. Woah, was I going to be able to eat anything with this guy in front of me. His smile lit up his face, but it was his lips that got my attention and I found myself imagining what it would be like to kiss those lips, to run my fingers through his softly curled hair, run my hands down his back, pulling his well muscled body close to mine…. I shook my head and realised he was talking to me.
"….. and there was no where else they said, so I had to ask you, I hope you don't mind." I shook my head not saying anything. He stuck his hand out. "My name's Brian."
He looked at me intently and I realised he was waiting for me to shake his hand. I lifted mine and took his hand. Now that was a mistake. My hand felt like an electric current was dancing through it, rendering me speechless. I saw the amused look on his face and cleared my throat. "Sorry, my name is Sue."
"Sue, nice name. Nice to meet you. And again, I am sorry to interrupt your peace and quiet."
"That's okay," I said to him. "The company would be nice. Especially from someone like you." I clamped my hand over my mouth. Had I really just said that! The grin on Brian's face told me I had indeed said it and I felt myself turn red with embarrassment. "Oh I am sorry," I apologised.
"Hey, it's okay, the feeling is mutual actually, you just beat me to it." I sat there open mouthed, stunned. "It's okay you know. I won't bite you. I just think you are something special. When I saw you across the room I prayed there would be no seats left for me to use."
I didn't know what to say. I just sat there staring at him. What I saw was magnificence. Everything about him captured my attention and my heart. When I had thought that morning a little romance would be okay, I never expected it to come like this.
"Do you believe in love at first sight?" Brian asked.
I let out a soft laugh. I looked away, which was a good idea. "I thought you said you were hungry." I said when I looked at the food for a stabilizing sight.
"Ah, now I have feasted on the loveliness of you, I am satisfied."
This time I giggled. What a sweet person Brian was. Corny lines and all. "I think we both better get some food."
"Okay, here, let me." He rose out of his chair and was straight by my side. He pulled out my chair and offered me his hand. I took his hand and he helped me up. But I was mesmerised and stood just looking at him. He was already capturing my heart and soul. We both just gazed at one another and I felt myself falling, and falling fast. My eyes lingered on his lips, and I ached to taste them. He licked his bottom lip subconsciously and it took all my willpower not to moan aloud.
Someone bumped into Brian breaking the spell. I laughed nervously, looking away deciding I needed a break. I walked on over to the breakfast bar and pretended to inspect the food. For all I knew though, it could have been mush! I had no idea what I put on my plate when I sat back down at the table. Brian had been right beside me the whole time, taking food at random as I was.
I couldn't look at him right now. I was feeling an overwhelming feeling for this man sitting opposite me and it unnerved me somewhat. I hardly knew him, no I didn't know him, yet my insides were going crazy at the thought of him. I wanted to be with him, get to know him, talk to him, laugh with him, maybe even go all the way with him, but for some reason, all I longed for right at this moment was a kiss. A simple sweet first kiss.
I looked up and Brian was looking straight at me. I blushed, I was sure, but I held my ground and looked at him too. Neither one of us spoke, we didn't need to. We both knew what was going on between us. I felt like I was silently burning up.
Then all of a sudden I felt an ice cold liquid spilling down my back and I squealed. A cold glass of water had been spilled on me by a young female waitress who was now fussing over me, trying to wipe me off.
"Leave her alone." Brian yelled and was by my side instantly. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little wet. It was an accident. But I will have to go and change."
Brian looked forlorn at the thought that I might be leaving and I smiled at him. "Would you like to accompany me Brian?"
His face broke out into a huge smile and my heart swelled at the sight. He was doing it again, digging his way into my heart. I would have to be very careful or I would be bound to be hurt. I was only here for a 4 days, and I had no idea even, where Brian came from.
He took my hand and I felt those electric shocks again. Silently we walked out of the dining room, the staff continuing to apologise to me. They offered me a pass for a free dinner that night, but Brian dismissed it, saying he would be taking me to dinner. I raised an eyebrow questioningly at him. He grinned at me and I couldn't help but grin back. He was very forward in assuming I would agree to go out to dinner with him, but he also knew very well that I would.
Still holding my hand we walked towards the elevator and once inside I pressed the button to my floor.
"I am on the same floor as you, how convenient."
"Really? How coincidental."
"Coincidence nothing. It's fate I reckon."
"You think?"
He nodded just as the doors to the 7th floor opened. We walked out and I led Brian in the direction to my room, funnily enough room 707. I had always thought 7 was considered a magical number and I was being convinced, simply because Brian was here now. I pulled the card for my door out. "Gee, look at your card. Mine isn't as fancy as that. It's almost magical."
"Magical hey? Feels a little like that." I said to him as we walked in the door. He still had hold of my hand and held me back, not letting go. I turned to look at him and stopped suddenly, again just being caught in his gaze. I had no idea how long we stood there but my mind was being filled with amazing thoughts of this guy in front of me. Finally I looked away.
"I think I better go and change out of these cold wet clothes."
He laughed self consciously. "Yeah, I guess."
He let go of my hand grudgingly and I felt a thrill go through me at his reluctance. His hand felt good in mine, I almost wanted to put it back there again. Slowly I turned and picked a new set of clothes from my bag. I walked towards the bathroom and went in. Just before I closed the door I turned and looked at Brian. He had a longing look in his face. Seeing that look had me almost burning up inside.
I turned quickly before I made a total fool of myself. Once the door was shut I collapsed onto the side of the bath tub and lay my head on the wall beside me. What was this guy doing to me. All I knew about him was that his name was Brian. I knew that he was turning me inside out and I knew he was making me want him more than anything I had ever wanted before. I longed to kiss his lips, they were driving me crazy. But Brian the person, I knew nothing about.
It must be the magic of the place, I decided. After all I was on Fantasy Island. I wondered how long he would be here for. Hopefully the whole 4 days I was here, and then maybe who knew what could happen. I moaned to myself at the thought.
"You okay in there?" Brian called out.
"Yeah, I am fine thanks." I managed to get out. I was not fine thinking about kissing him like I was. I shook my head. Why was he doing this to me?
I changed into another pair of shorts and a blue shirt I hung the wet clothes up over the shower rail so they could dry. I hardly wore them and once they dried I could wear them again. I looked at myself in the mirror and decided my hair needed a brush putting through it. Once I had done that I turned to leave the bathroom.
I walked out to see Brian standing by the balcony his back to me. He seemed in a world of his own as I walked up to him. "Brian?" I said and he jumped. "Sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you. Are you okay?"
"Yes, I am okay. I was just thinking I have to leave in the morning and I don't want to."
A heavy feeling went through me. He was leaving sooner than I wanted him too. "Oh, you are leaving tomorrow?"
"Yes, early. But we have the rest of today to be together. If it is okay with you, after that I would like to stay in touch."
"Sure."
"Where do you live?"
"In Orlando."
"Are you kidding me? So do I."
At that I smiled again. The thought of him leaving had me oddly depressed. But knowing we at least lived in the same city cheered me up. He smiled too and we both looked at one another. My smile faded at the same time his did, replaced by a look of desire. That is what I was feeling anyway.
I held my breath as I felt him moving closer. My heart was pounding in my ears drowning everything else out. I lifted my face in expectation. Closer he came till his lips were inches from mine, his breath caressing my face. I lifted my lips further, but I wanted him to close the space.
Brian leaned a little further down, his lips just brushing mine softly. His bottom lip touched mine and I wanted to die from the desire racing through me. My head was spinning. My ears were ringing. Must be a fire alarm from the heat we were radiating. But that ringing.
Ringing! It was the telephone. I moved away from Brian feeling disorientated and picked up the phone automatically. The person on the other end was talking but I wasn't listening. My mind was totally on the almost kiss I just had. I resisted the urge to touch my fingers to my lips, only because Brian was watching me. They felt like they were burning where his lips had touched mine
"What?" I said into the phone… "No, I didn't order any breakfast in my room….. yes, I am sure…. Thanks" I said and placed the receiver in it's cradle. I didn't feel very thankful at that interruption.
I turned and looked at Brian. His expression was unreadable. His eyes were deep in colour and his expression was one of yearning. I was sure I looked exactly the same. He walked over to me and took my hands in his.
"You feel it too don't you?"
"Feel what?" I knew exactly what he meant.
"What's going on between us. There is a stronger force here, pushing us together. It's like destiny." I nodded as he spoke.
"But I think we better slow down a little."
"We only have today."
"I know, but didn't you say you live in Orlando too. We have more than just today. I feel that too."
This time he nodded. "Slowing down is probably a good thing." He took my hands in his and looked into my eyes. "I have never in my life had such an instant reaction to anyone like I have you. I don't want to do anything to ruin anything we may be able to share." I smiled at him. "How about we go and have some coffee somewhere. And we can get to know each other better."
"Sounds perfect."
"Great, lets go then." He turned, one of my hands still firmly in his. I laughed as he pulled me along behind him. This was going to be a roller coaster ride of emotions I was sure.
