CHAPTER 2

Every night for the following week Skye dreamt about those blue eyes and she woke feeling strangely exhilarated each morning. She never saw any more of the elusive mystery man who was invading every facet of her life, other than those eyes, but she looked forward to going to bed every night just to see them, hoping to maybe see some more of him. The dreams were not the same, but the blue eyes teasing her, laughing with her, smiling at her, and looking lovingly at her had her heart beating a little faster every time she woke, a smile on her face.

Her dreams were usually a mish mash of events and crazy ventures, but these were slightly different too. Still unable to decipher the many weird twists and turns the dreams were taking her in as she slept, they always focused on those eyes. It was almost as if they were leading her somewhere, a place she had not been to in a long time, but knew she could return to some day. This made it increasingly frustrating when Jay would ask her every morning to tell her about her dreams. She couldn’t tell her anything. Skye knew though where the dreams were trying to lead her. Back into the arms of love and while she wasn’t ready yet, it also excited her.

She spent her days daydreaming about these blue eyes that were invading both her waking and sleeping mind. She lost count of the time a small child in her class would tug on her pants trying desperately to get her attention for some the class project they were working on. Spade in hand, her youngest class member Thomas was asking her a question about their garden and she had to give herself a mental shake. Sabrina was pouring too much water into the watering can spilling it all over the top getting herself drenched in the process. She had to stop dreaming about a figment of her imagination and concentrate on the task at hand. These kids were too precious for her to be off in a world of her own. They depended on her. She quickly dried Sabrina off as best as she could and sent her off to the office with her assistant to get some drier clothes on. She had to stop dreaming.

Lunchtime was a different matter. Her young charges in someone else’s care she was free to daydream as much as she liked. And she did. In reality though she had very little to go with. She sighed and bit into a mouthful her salad. This was getting her nowhere fast. She had to get over it.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The wind whipped around her swirling her hair about her face. She captured its lengths, pulling it into her fingers and holding it to the side. She wished she had something to tie it back with. As she walked along the beach, the waves pounding in to a trickle by the time it reached the shore wetting her feet as she walked, she noticed a figure a short way ahead of her. Dark haired and fairly tall he looked so familiar as he walked along in the same direction as she was, always the same distance ahead of her.

His walk looked achingly familiar and she picked up her pace trying to catch him. She felt uneasy as a chilled breeze brushed against her exposed skin. She wrapped her arms around herself, rubbing her arms for warmth. She needed to get closer to him. She began to run and noticed he was running too.

Skye wanted to call out and opened her mouth to yell a name, but nothing would come out. No matter how many times she tried to call out, it always came soundlessly. She shook her head and stopped still. As soon as she stopped, he stopped moving too. Agonisingly slowly he turned around and Skye held her breath.

Brown eyes looked at her, the familiar face smiling at her from the distance. Although he was so far away from her, Skye could see every feature of the face she loved so much. Her heart ached desperately and she held out her arms to him. “Trevor, wait for me.” She said almost in a whisper. She needed him, she wanted so badly to hold him in her arms, to be held by him just one more time.

Trevor looked at her, a mixture of love and desire along with regret and sorrow evident in his eyes. From the distance they were separated now he opened his mouth and his words came out as a whisper, but Skye heard them as his words murmured in her ear, his breath caressing her cheek so softly she shivered. “Hi Skye. How have you been?”

Skye sobbed. Trevor was here. He had come back to her. “Trevor,” was all she could get out, holding her arms out and taking steps towards him but not getting closer to him. Why did he keep moving away?

“You know I love you Skye?” he whispered again. She nodded her head, unable to speak. She didn’t trust her voice. The wind was still whipping around, getting stronger, her hair once again free and flying about her face. “I love you Skye but I can’t be here for you. You have to love again.”

“But I love you Trevor,” her voice was barely a whisper but Trevor heard her.

“But I am gone now Skye. Someone else is out there for you. You have to live your life.” She felt his fingers on her face even though he wasn’t within touching distance.

“No I can’t. I want you,” her voice trailed off.

“Yes you can. If you love me you will. I’ll be watching out for you.” Trevor said as he began walking into the water. Waves crashed about him as Skye cried, calling him back to her, but he kept walking further into the water. Lightning began to flash around him lighting up the sky in a glowing display silhouetting Trevor’s body as he disappeared into the ocean. The ocean had taken him away once and it was taking him again. She couldn’t let this happen again, but she was frozen to the spot, leadened feet halting her attempt to follow him. “You can’t come with me,” he called out over the thunder and crashing waves, “It’s not your time yet, you still have love to find.”

A bolt of lightning lit the sky, blinding her for a moment and when she could see again Trevor was gone. “Trevor, Trevor, Trevor,” she screamed out, tears flowing at a dramatic rate. Trevor’s words surrounded her as she sobbed, “I love you Skye, you have to move on. I’m not here anymore, but someone else is. I will be watching from above.” “Nooooooooo,” she screamed and fell to the sand covering her face as she cried. She missed him so much.

The thunder stopped abruptly and the warmth of the sun returned warming her chilled body. Skye felt a hand on her shoulder and slowly looked up. Those blue eyes were there, smiling at her encouragingly. “It’s time to move on,” he said simply and he turned to walk away, looking over his shoulder once, beckoning her to follow…..

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Skye woke in a lather of sweat and her pillow was wet through from the tears she had been crying. She wiped the remaining tears from her eyes remembering what Trevor had said to her. An overwhelming feeling of peace washed over her as she realised Trevor had visited her in her dream to let her go, allow her to move on with her life. She didn’t know if she was ready yet, but Trevor’s appearance eased her troubled mind. She would always love him, but as everyone had been telling her, life went on and she had to move along with it. She was never going to see him again, unless it was in her dreams.

The appearance of her blue-eyed stranger had been strangely comforting too. Instead of feeling panicked that someone was trying to force their way into her life, she felt calmed by his presence. She still had only seen the blue eyes, but now she remembered his blonde hair, so in contrast with Trevor’s dark hair and brown eyes. She remembered his smile, so gentle, so kind and caring. When he had turned to look over his shoulder to beckon her to follow, Skye had felt her walls of ice begin to crumble.

She looked at the clock on her nightstand and realised it was nearly time to get up and ready for work. She sighed deeply wishing for once that she could stay in bed and go back to sleep. Normally she greeted the morning with gusto, always eager for another day with a class full of kindergarten children she took great joy in teaching. This morning though, she wished she could just lie in bed analysing her dream to the finest detail. But it wasn’t to be, so she threw the blankets back and headed to the shower.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Brian sat on the edge of the beach watching over the ocean. A feeling of something important about to happen came over him and he straightened. His eyes scanned the beach, white sand beginning to whip around at a stinging pace. All he saw was a dark haired man walking towards him, followed some distance behind by a woman, her light brown hair swirling about her as the wind picked up it’s strength. She caught her hair in her hand holding it to her side and he was instantly mesmerised by her beauty.

She followed the man, breaking out into a slow run as Brian noticed lightning in the distance. He would have to get up and away from the beach. He saw the woman, who was now closer to him than the man. Her beauty had him spellbound and he couldn’t move, transfixed to the spot as his eyes focused on her face. She was crying and he ached to reach out to her, but she was talking to the man. Even with their distance apart, they miraculously heard each other speaking to the other. Brian didn’t hear a word but it was obvious this man was very special to her.

The woman continued to cry as the man entered the water, lightning now flashing dangerously around him. The waved pounded around him, never once crashing in to him as he spoke to the woman. She continued to cry, tears flowing now, her arms held out to him desperately.

Lightning suddenly flashed so bright Brian covered his eyes with his arm, the light so intense it hurt to look. When he looked up again the man was gone and the woman was left crying. Without thought he stood up, brushing the sand from his shorts and walked towards the woman.

The sun broke through the grey clouds as they dispersed rapidly in the sky. He looked up to see a rainbow appear and he closed the distance to the shoreline. The woman was now on her knees, her face in her hands crying. The sun shone on her creating a golden glow around her, almost angelically. His hand went down of it’s own accord, reaching to touch her softly on the shoulder.

Slowly she looked up and he gasped at her beauty, managing to smile at her for support. “It’s time to move on,” Brian said to her and he noticed her features soften. He turned to walk away and as he walked he looked over his shoulder one last time, smiling brightly at her, wiggling his fingers for her to follow him. He held out his hand as she began to stand up, her eyes not leaving his. A bell rang and continued to ring. He looked around the beach there was no bell. It rang again, and she was gone.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Brian woke suddenly, his heart beating a little faster than normal. The bell, it had woken him from a dream, giving him a fright. Damn, he thought, why did that alarm have to ring now. He would have been happy to keep dreaming about his elusive woman, the one who had been invading his dreams for over a week now. It was the most he had seen of her tonight, and her smile, or the glimmer of her smile, had brightened her face, softening her features.

He smiled to himself imagining her face. Now he had seen her face in his dreams he could remember her clearly. He light brown, almost golden in colour swung freely down her back, almost to her waist. He thought about running his fingers through her hair almost feeling its silkiness. He could see every feature of her face, but what captured him the most were her eyes. Brown eyes, almost a honey in colour sparkled when she had looked at him.

Brian shook his head. What was he thinking? She hadn’t looked at him. He had dreamt a woman up in his imagination, she was not a real person. He threw the blankets off himself and swung his legs over the side. The alarm had gone off, that meant he had to get up for yet another round of interviews and TV shows before heading off to perform another concert. He loved performing, but he was feeling exhausted. He needed a break from the gruelling schedule they were keeping, they all did. He promised himself a real vacation once the tour was over. It wasn’t much longer now.

He walked to the window of his hotel room and looked out as he had done the first time he had a dream about his mystery woman. Another city this time, but everything looked the same to him. He wanted to get away, somewhere by the beach like in his dreams. Somewhere where no one would recognise him. There might not have been anywhere in USA he could do that. But he would try and find somewhere. He really didn’t want to leave the country.

He sighed. This wasn’t getting him anywhere. He would keep this dream to himself as he had with most of the others. Nick had given him plenty about the first one he had told him about, he had kept the rest secret, despite Nick asking him every morning if he had another dream. Maybe his attitude lately had him wondering. Brian always shrugged it off saying he was tired. That alone surprised him that he remembered his dreams. Normally when he was as tired as he was now he slept so deeply he simply didn’t remember his dreams.
