CHAPTER 27

Skye was waving to someone. The gentle breeze was blowing in her hair pushing it back from her face as she walked. The sky was a brilliant blue dotted with soft white clouds and she sighed at the beauty of nature. The person who was waving was walking away, but turned to wave in her direction, both of them smiling at one another, both of them at peace. A hand captured hers from behind and she turned to look into Brian’s eyes, her smile widening when she looked at him moving into his arms coming around to hold her. She looked back at the figure walking away and he was gone and she knew it had been Trevor. The final thread had been broken between them. Always would he be in her heart, there would always be a place for him, her first love, but there was now a big place in there for someone else. For Brian.

Skye woke and she smiled remembering the dream. Trevor had made one final appearance in her dreams to say goodbye. Finally she was able to feel at peace about moving on with her life. Her life was right here in her arms right now.

She felt those arms around her now and felt overcome with the love and security they provided her. She opened her eyes but stayed still, not wanting to wake Brian, preferring to stay in his arms for a while longer. She guessed it was easily mid morning by the sun shining in the window, a time she didn’t often sleep till. She was where she wanted to stay.

She had her head on his shoulder and it felt so comfortable. One arm was curled up between them and her other arm lay on his stomach, her hand over his heart. She could feel his steady heartbeat under her fingers and sighed softly. That heartbeat was racing a lot faster through the night keeping pace with her erratic beat.

She lifted her head slightly to look at Brian only to find him awake and watching her. The joy that burst through her on seeing his smile brought her own smile to her face and a pitter-patter in her heart. “Good morning beautiful,” he said to her.

“Good morning. How long have you been awake?”

“Oh a little while. I’ve just been watching you sleep.”

“Watching me sleep?” Skye asked with a frown. Why would he want to do that?

“Yes, watching you sleep. Watching the sun shine across your face making you look like a princess.” His hand brushed across her cheek slowly. “Watching your lashes so soft and relaxed against your cheeks.” His fingers moved down to her lips moving across them like butterfly wings. “Your lips slightly parted, just begging to be kissed.” He stopped and watched her and they both gazed at one another lovingly. Brian gave her that kiss she had silently asked for in her sleep bringing back all the feelings from the night before. “Last night was the most special night and they will only get better.”

She didn’t know what to say, she was choked up with emotion at his words and she lowered her eyes. She felt tears threatening to spill and forced them away. She didn’t want Brian to see them.

“Lets go for a shower.” Brian said to her quietly. He sensed her mood and realised he may have overwhelmed her with his words. Maybe moving on would help.

Brian carried Skye into the bathroom with her giggling at his craziness. He spun her around when he got in there, joining in with her laughter, and they looked around the room, the spa now still, the candles all burnt out, but the roses still throwing off a glorious aroma. “Brian. Last night was wonderful you know.” She looked down at him. “You were wonderful,” she said to him seductively and was rewarded with one of his smiles that always set her heartbeat racing. He lowered her to the floor and kissed her gently on the cheek before turning to turn the shower taps on.

He tested the water and stepped in when he felt it was at the right temperature. Steam was already beginning to float around him and up to the ceiling as he held his hand out to Skye, encouraging her to join him. She took his hand in hers and stepped into the shower next to him without hesitation. Contact with Brian was what she wanted now, whether it was here in the shower, laying in bed, sitting together on the lounge, even cooking a meal together. Their one night of passion had stirred deep feelings for him within her and she needed the contact he offered her.

She stood under the water letting it wash over her seductively, wetting her hair as she stood there. She felt a Brian nudge her forward a little and she took a step keeping her eyes closed. He began to massage her hair and she realised he was washing it with a sweet smelling shampoo. She sighed to herself. It felt so relaxing at the same time it was extremely sexy. She couldn’t help the sigh that escaped her lips and Brian chuckled to himself as his fingers expertly massaged her scalp causing tingles to cover her body right down to her fingertips. She didn’t know how she could still be standing, the desires racing through her making her knees weak.

The conditioner he used on her hair was soft and slippery and only heightened the experience for Skye. She soaked up the feelings and emotions raging through her. She rinsed the conditioner out of her hair and stepped back to return the favour to Brian, listening to him groan as her fingers massaged his scalp. She smiled to herself excited by the fact that she was affecting him as she was.

He was back on to her rinsing the last of the soap from his body when she reached around his waist, lowering her lips to his shoulder, her tongue sneaking out to slide across his back and up to his neck, stopping at his ear. She nipped his earlobe just as he spun her around in his arms and pulled her to his body forcefully. She yelped then giggled letting her hands draw lazy circles on his chest as the water fell on them both. Her arms were trapped between their bodies at his chest as he held her tightly and she could feel his desire pressed against her. She also knew he was not going to act on that desire now no matter how much they wanted it. A sixth sense told her he was content to just hold her.

Brian leaned down to kiss her softly before reaching over to turn the water off. Keeping her in his arms he moved them both out of the shower without a word and reached for another huge white fluffy towel, wrapping it around them tightly before finally succumbing and kissing her passionately leaving Skye breathless.

“You okay?” Brian asked in a whisper.

Skye nodded. She was more than alright but she didn’t know how to tell him. All she knew was that her heart was brimming with love for the man holding her so close to him. It was a wonderful feeling.

He began to rub her skin gently with the towel. Her arms were trapped within the circle of the towel, so she waited for him to finish before she took her turn in drying him off, a task she found very enjoyable. Her senses were in overdrive and every passing second of the two of them together had Skye wanting him more and more. But Brian steered her towards the bedroom wrapping the towel around her as he walked to the dresser, pulling two Kentucky Wildcats T-shirts out. Watching his nude body wasn’t helping matters.

He took two pair of sweats out of the next drawer before returning to Skye. “I hope these will do for you to wear for now,” he asked. Skye nodded, finding her voice had left her for now. “Good, come on. Lets get dressed,” he continued, “then we can have some breakfast. I’m starving. Are you hungry?”

If only he knew just how much, Skye thought to herself, only not the kind of hungry he was talking about. She murmured out a yes as she continued to watch Brian, now sliding his t-shirt over his head, his damp curls sticking up all over from the towelling he had given them. As much as she wanted him right now, her respect for him grew to an all time level. She knew he wanted her too. His reaction in the shower was proof of that, yet here he was showing her he respected her for more than just the physical attraction. Her heart leapt with joy knowing that their relationship was more than purely physical. Their spiritual and emotional relationship was equally as important to both of them. She walked over to him, still wrapped in the big towel, and wrapped her arms around his waist. She placed a soft kiss on his cheek before saying, “I love you Brian. Thank you.”

He looked quizzically at her. “Thank you?”

She shrugged giving him a coy look. “Just for being you. For making me feel so special.”

He gave her a dazzling smile. “You aint seen nothin’ yet Baby,” he told her, planting a noisy kiss on her forehead making her giggle. He wiggled his eyebrows at her as he reached for her t-shirt and popped it over her head. “Come on, get dressed, I need food,” he laughed and ducked Skye’s playful smack she aimed at him.

They continued to joke with one another throughout the breakfast preparation, both of them light heartedly teasing the other about many things. Their discussion turned to the tricks their ghosts had played on them and sharing their experiences seemed to bring them even closer together. There was a secret bond between them. One they could hardly tell anyone about for fear of people thinking they were insane. Jay knew about Skye’s dreams, but that was as far as she had gone in telling her about their strange visitors. She already thought she was crazy from the dreams. Besides, they both agreed it was kind of nice to have such a miraculous secret between them.

“They are really gone aren’t they? I can’t feel them anywhere,” Skye asked Brian out of the blue. Her eyes looked sad at the thought.

“I think they are. If they were here they would have surely said something to us. After all this is what they had been scheming for.” Brian reached for her hand to comfort her. It had to hurt to lose them again. He watched her carefully, making sure she was okay. “They are where they should be Skye. They will be happy up there and you can guarantee that they will be watching out for you still.”

“Us Brian, us! They will be watching out for us,” she corrected him.

He smiled at her and her heart did its usual pitter-patter. Just a look would set her afire. “Brian?”

“Yes my Angel.”

“I’m not an angel Brian. We have our Angels.”

“You are my living Angel, a very special one.”

She smiled at him now. She liked the idea of being his special Angel. “Brian?” she repeated.

He chuckled. “Yes my Angel.”

“Do you love me?” she asked, a mischievous grin on her face.

“Yes I love you,” he told her.

“Brian,” she said again.

“Yes my Angel,” he repeated, a grin on his face now too.

“Do you want me?” She continued to smile and screwed her nose up at him.

“You know I do,” he answered her a little breathlessly. How he could go from ‘normal’ to feeling on fire for her in only moments amazed him. He reached out to take her hand in his.

“Well, then catch me if you can,” she said to him and bounced out of her chair and out the back door in a flash, leaving a dumbstruck Brian looking at where she had been before finally gathering his composure.

“You just wait,” he mumbled more to himself because she was already way out of earshot. He opened the door and looked around for her. He half expected her to pounce on him the second he walked through the door but she wasn’t there. He looked about and finally saw her retreating form running along the sand towards the water. She turned to look at him, a huge smile on her face, squealing when she realised he was on his way after her. She turned again and ran as fast as the sand would let her, but she knew Brian would catch her eventually. She slowed her pace, not at all averse to the idea of him catching her. She wanted him to catch her and hold her in his arms tightly as she pretended to struggle in his arms.

Nevertheless she squealed loudly when he came right behind her and jumped away as he lunged at her, Brian landing in a heap in the sand spluttering sand from his mouth loudly. By now she was laughing so hard it hurt her sides, but for a while longer she dodged about the sand, even turning back in the direction they had come from in a feeble attempt at escaping his clutches. She wondered if he was waiting for her to surrender.

Finally she stopped dead in her tracks and turned to face him. Brian was so unprepared for it and ran into her at full pace, knocking them both to the soft sand, his body directly over hers. Skye shrieked with laughter, her arms pinned at her sides. Brian reached down and began to tickle her mercilessly.

“This is payback for tricking me like that,” he told her between her squeals.

“No Brian,” she gasped, “Stop… I can’t breath.” She continued to laugh. “I’m sorry,” she told him in between laughs.

“And how do you propose to make it up to me?” he asked stilling his hands. They were perilously close to her breasts and instantly the heat from before returned and he knew she had to feel the effect she had on him.

Her eyes darkened and her face softened as she gazed directly into his eyes. Licking her lips to wet them, she lifted her face closer to his. “I think I can think of something,” she whispered to him in a husky voice. Her breathing began to quicken as she waited for his lips to come closer to hers. When he licked his lips to tease her back, she lifted her head from the sand to close the gap between them. Tentatively she brushed her lips across his, sneaking the tip of his tongue out as she reached the corner of his mouth. Brian groaned and took the punishment into his own hands.

His mouth crashed down on hers, surprising Skye a little at his sudden need. It rekindled the desire she had felt before and she returned the kiss with fervour completely oblivious to the fact that they were on a public beach in summer, albeit one that was not frequented often. Nevertheless, someone spoke to them with amusement in their voice.

“Come on you two, wasn’t last night enough for you?” he said jabbing Brian in the ribs with his toe.

“Daniel! Can’t you see I am busy?” Brian grunted at him, his eyes never leaving Skye's.

“Busy? That’s what it’s called these days?” he laughed.

“And where were you last night,” came Jay’s voice suddenly and Skye groaned. “As if we didn’t know,” she whispered into Daniels ear but both Brian and Skye had heard them too.

Brian finally looked up at their friends who were delighting in disturbing them. Skye looked past Brian, both of them squinting their eyes against the sun shining down past them into their eyes. “She was with me, got any complaints about that?”

Both Daniel and Jay laughed, throwing their heads back and laughing heartily. “Not one complaint Brian.”

“Well go away and leave us alone.” His eyes had lowered back to gaze at Skye’s again both of them forgetting about their interruption. Brian lowered his lips for another softer kiss. Jay’s voice giggling vaguely registered in Brian’s brain. “Don’t they make a cute couple?”
