CHAPTER 8

As Brian got ready for Daniels charity dinner and ball he felt some uneasiness. His dreams had again been filled with Honey, but this time there was a familiarity about them he couldn’t put his finger on. His dreams were always leaving him in need of cold showers and this time he got himself out of bed and ran into the cold surf for cooling off. Honey was going to be the end of him. He was craving to be with her. He wanted to make love to her like he did in his dreams and never have to worry about anything else again. The desire was so strong it scared him. She wasn’t even a real person.

For the two days he had been here by the ocean he had conflicting emotions. On the one hand he felt rejuvenated, the tensions his pop star life had him feeling now almost gone. He felt so much better in that regard, and doing nothing in particular through the day and night, doing things as he pleased, was such a welcome change, something he rarely had time to do. But on the other hand his dreams were still haunted by the long fair-haired, honey eyed beauty. He almost felt like he was in love with her, which he realised was stupid, but he couldn’t help the feeling. He was in love with an imaginary woman. Maybe if he met someone at Daniels Charity event he would be able to forget her.

He tightened his tie and picked up his suit jacket. Daniel would be here to pick him up shortly and he wanted to be ready. He looked in the mirror to check his hair was okay. It was getting a bit long and the curls that persisted on growing whenever there was a bit of length sat on the top of his collar. It looked a little unruly, but at least he was clean-shaven. The car out the front signalled Daniels arrival and Brian carried the jacket as he went, knowing it was still a little warm to be wearing it. They would be a little early, but Brian would tuck himself in a corner until he felt comfortable.

*********************************

Skye stood in the corner of the large, beautifully decorated function hall admiring the décor. She felt like a princess after Jay had finished helping her dress then doing the final touches on her make up and hair. Whoever Daniel had hired to do the decorating was to be commended. They had done an excellent job. A feeling of déjà vu washed over her as she watched and she couldn’t work out why. A mirror ball was circling in the center, reflecting tiny pinpricks of white light around the room. It was enchanting. Unlike the coloured lights of that dream she had had a week or so ago earlier.

She stood stock still at the memory of the dream. That was it. That was the feeling of déjà vu that she was feeling. She felt faint for a moment, realising she had foreseen this room, even if it wasn’t so tastefully decorated in her dream. This was her dream. She suddenly remembered what else happened in the dream and her heart began to pound.

Could it be possible? Was Blue Eyes here? Did she want him to be? What would she do if he were here? She would blush for sure, remembering all the intimate dreams she had had about him. Some of them were positively indecent. She chuckled at that thought, lifting her hand to her cheek and feeling how warm it was. Her mind raced with the possibilities and she had to escape for a moment. She walked to the front doors, walking out to the steps for a breath of fresh air. She stood on the step for a moment, her mind buzzing, coming up with no conclusions.

Back inside she searched the crowd for Jay and was pleasantly surprised to find her by Daniels side, their arms lightly around each other’s waists as they talked to someone. She smiled. She hadn’t needed to push the two of them together after all.

Then she saw him. Blue Eyes. He was standing right in front of Daniel. She would have recognised him anywhere, despite the fact she often did not even see his features, except his eyes, in her dreams. Those eyes of his were so memorable and so mesmerising. She stood fixed to the spot watching him. As she did she realised why he had seemed so familiar to her. There was a strong resemblance to Daniel they had to be family. All this time she had been dreaming about someone in her friend’s family? It seemed incredible to her. No what was incredible was that he was actually real. And that he was here. Could he possibly be the one who was living next door to them? That would really blow her away.

She saw Jay look around the room and her eyes met hers. “There she is,” she said and three pairs of eyes looked in her direction. Blue Eyes saw her last and a look of confusion crossed his face. She was disappointed when she saw him frown, but then he smiled and he was exactly the man from her dreams. She felt dizzy with amazement and lifted a hand to slowly wave to the crowd. She was transfixed to Blue Eyes and had to break that contact, turning slowly, pretending to take an interest in the conversation beside her. How could she face him? But she felt it was coming. She sensed their moving closer……

Brian had been enjoying the night more than he had expected. He had thought it would be like all the others he had attended, full of fake people putting on airs and graces, but it was nothing like that at all. He had worried that someone might recognise him, but he was pleasantly surprised that he wasn’t. It was refreshing to meet people who didn’t know what you did and wanted to know you simply for that reason. If he had an ego like so many in his industry had it would have been disappointing, but he didn’t mind in the least, in fact he craved it.

His only scare came when Jay looked at him with some amount of recognition and he hoped that wouldn’t be a problem. But as Jay looked at Brian, she commented on the family resemblance to Daniel. Brian noticed the amusement on Daniel’s face when she said that. He knew Brian was worried about being recognised and Brian had to resist the urge to stick his tongue out at his cousin at his smirk.

Jay started to talk about Skye who she lived with and telling Daniel about how down she had been lately. He felt uncomfortable listening in on a private conversation so he tuned out until he heard the word ‘dreams’. His ears pricked up when he heard that and he shamelessly listened in.

“These dreams are haunting her Daniel, and I have to help her somehow.”

“Excuse me for listening in, but your friend has been having recurring dreams?” Brian asked trying to sound neutral. Jay nodded, looking a little wary at having said too much in front of a stranger. “I know someone who is going through the same thing.”

“You do? Wow. That’s incredible.” Jay answered in awe. “Hey would you like to meet her? She is a great person,” Jay asked, wanting to do a little matchmaking of her own seeing she knew Skye had planned on some. Thing was she and Daniel hadn’t needed any help afterall.

Brian shrugged. “Sure,” he answered, nonchalantly. With all the coincidences happening to him, would it be possible this was Honey? Surely not, but it wouldn’t hurt to meet her.

He looked in the direction Jay was searching and he saw her an instant before Jay did. It was her, his Honey and for a moment he felt weak in the knees. Her hair was pulled up with soft wisps of curls falling around her face, but he would recognise her anywhere. It was her eyes, those eyes he had memorised every day and night for so many weeks now he couldn’t even remember.

“There she is,” Jay called out and waved in Skye’s direction. Brian’s eyes locked with hers and he saw recognition in her eyes. This was impossible and he felt totally confused for a moment. Then he smiled at her, he couldn’t help himself. “Come on, come and meet Skye, I know you will love her,” Jay continued, looping an arm around each man and directing them over. If only Jay had known what an ironic comment that was.

Brian’s mind was in turmoil. What was he going to do? How would he not make a fool of himself here? He used all his professional training he had learnt in the business to keep himself from saying something silly and taking a deep breath he looked up at Skye. She was giving Daniel a hello kiss on the cheek, but her eyes didn’t seem to leave his, and he felt a little uncomfortable under her constant scrutiny.

“Skye, this is Brian, Daniels cousin. Brian, my best friend in the whole wide world Skye,” Jay introduced them, jumping in before Daniel did.

Skye gave her friend a short smile then returned her eyes to Brian’s. He had already decided he wouldn’t mention anything about what Jay had said about the dreams, not wanting to draw attention to his own dreams. He put his hand out to take hers briefly and the second they touched an electric current ran up his arm. She felt it too, he sensed it and saw the surprise in her eyes. “Nice to meet you Skye,” Brian said to her, his eyes locked with hers.

Skye felt the tingle too. There was something going on between the two of them. Above her she felt a cold breeze but she couldn’t drag her eyes away from Brian’s to look. In her mind she heard the words ‘He is the one. Don’t push him away,’ and recognised it as Trevor’s voice. This unnerved her a little and she dropped Brian’s hand. Here eyes dashed about, looking above her, but she saw nothing. Who said that? She wanted to ask but she knew they would all think her crazy if she did. But not Brian. She sensed he would understand. There was a connection between them.

Brian had heard the voice too, telling him, ‘She is the one, don’t let her slip away.” He schooled his features to stay neutral but inside he felt rattled. This wasn’t normal. The whole situation was no way anything like normal, and it scared him. How could this be happening? Skye heard it too, he was sure of that.

“… so what is it that you do Brian. Daniel has never mentioned you before.” Brian heard Jay ask him.

“Um, I’m in…” he struggled. He didn’t know what to say.

“Brian travels a lot.” Daniel interrupted. “He’s here for a well earned break and being my best relative, I let him stay at my place.” He smiled at Brian, urging him along.

Brian smiled and let out a chuckle. “Yeah. Looking forward to a summer of relaxation and fun. I’d rather not think about work.”

“Wooo, mystery man hey? Well, I hope you have a relaxing vacation. Couldn’t have picked a nicer place for that. It is really quiet where we are.”

“Love it so far,” Brian said and looked at Skye again. Her eyes hadn’t left him and he sensed it. He smiled at her and was rewarded with a dazzling smile in return.

Jay frowned. It wasn't like Skye to be so taken with someone she just met. Even Trevor fought for her attention for some time before she let him in. She looked critically at Brian and it was then that she noticed his eyes. He had piercing blue eyes and she immediately wondered if Skye was thinking about her dream man. She had to be careful. On the other hand, Brian seemed very nice, a gentleman, and he was exactly the kind of person Skye needed. She had been her friend long enough to know the type of person she needed.

“Daniel, it looks like Mr Jeffreys needs your assistance with something over there,” Jay said suddenly, having noticed the man in a deep discussion with a wealthy benefactor. “You better give your assistance. Will you excuse us?” Jay said quickly and Skye knew what she was up to. Never before has she so willingly wanted to talk to one of Daniels associates. Daniel looked at her oddly, but soon realised what she was doing and agreed with her. They quickly scurried away with a quick goodbye leaving Brian and Skye alone.

“She’s not too subtle is she?” Skye said to Brian.

He grinned, “Why I don’t know what you mean.” He looked at Skye, both of them trying not to laugh but they lost the battle and laughed about Jay’s less than subtle attempts at matchmaking.

“Would you like a drink?” Brian asked her.

Skye thought for a moment. “No, I don’t think so, thanks. I think what I would really like to do is escape from here. Do you think Jay and Daniel would be too disappointed if I left them alone?” she asked looking in their direction. They were now on the dance floor holding each other closely.

“Aww, don’t do that to me, I have to go home with Daniel.” Brian said to her pouting. He didn’t want Skye to be leaving him just yet.

He made her laugh and without even realising it she spoke up. “It’s okay, I can take you home.” This whole situation was freaking her out, but at the same time she didn’t want to leave Brian just yet. The voice she had heard earlier played on her mind. She wasn't to let him get away. That was hardly likely to happen seeing he was living next door, but she wanted to get to know the real Blue Eyes.

“Do you mind?” Brian asked. He had to be sure. He wanted it. And he knew there was something going on between them. He wanted the chance to explore it. He wouldn’t tell her about his dreams, but they would play on his mind.

“Yes, I am sure. Come on, let’s go home.”
