Brian left the yard and stood out the front wondering what to do next. He could ring a cab, only he didn't know where he was. How could he request a cab with no address to give them? He scratched his head and started walking, hoping to find a street sign. It was a long walk to the first cross street but finally he had a street sign, and one that indicated the suburb as well. He pulled his cell phone from his pocket and turned it on intending to call a cab. When he looked at the illuminated display panel, he noticed 6 missed calls from Sue and he immediately dialled her number instead, cursing himself for having worried her, as he was sure he had. The phone only rang once and Sue was on the other end. "Brian?" she almost cried into the phone. "Is that you?" "Yes Sue, calm down, it's me," he said calmly. "Calm down? I have been worried sick about you. Where are you?" He could tell she was frantic. He looked at his watch and realised he had been gone for nearly an hour. The night was very dark, the moon hidden behind some clouds and it gave an eerie feel. Brian shivered as he looked around, trying to concentrate on the call, but not feeling at ease. He shook his head and continued. "Sue, I'm so sorry for worrying you, I had no chance to phone you until now," he explained. A car headed towards him and he his behind some bushes. "But what happened. Where did you go?" "I was in the other guy's car when he came out. I managed to hide." "Brian, are you nuts? What if he had seen you?" "Sue, I had no choice, he was coming straight for me there was no way I could get out." "You shouldn't have been in there to begin with. Brian you know nothing about him, he might have hurt you." "Exactly my point as to why I don't want you near him. Look I'll explain when I get back to your place. I'll get a cab." "I'll come and get you." "No, wait there for me. It will be faster for me to get a cab." "Okay," she agreed reluctantly. "Just hurry please." He softened towards her. "Sue, I'll be there as fast as I can. Calm down Baby, please." "Alright." She hesitated. "Brian…" "Yes Baby." "I love you," she told him quietly, but loud enough for him to hear. Brian smiled. "I love you too Sue. I'll see you soon okay. Look out for me." "I will." Brian ended the call and dialled a cab company right after. He gave them the address he was at and waited impatiently for it to arrive. He looked around and tried to take note of anything he could in the darkness. He still hadn't found a name for the person, but he did have a model of car and registration plates. He didn't like to use his celebrity status often, but in this case he wouldn't hesitate to pull a few strings to get what he wanted. He would find a name and everything about this person, and not feel the slightest guilt at having gained the knowledge the way he planned. It was 20 minutes later Brian was back at Sue's place, paying the cab driver and climbing out in record time. Sue had the door open before he was up the steps and she threw herself into his arms randomly kissing him repeatedly. Brian stopped her by taking her face in his hands and holding her still, looking at her long enough for his eyes to tell her how he felt before his lips descended to hers in a kiss of longing. All thought of the danger he could have been in, the worry he had put Sue through was forgotten for the moment. She had told him she loved him, before she had only said she thought she did, and now he wanted to show the same love back. "I'm sorry Sue. I never meant to scare you like I did." As he so often did, his fingers caressed the side of her face. She always liked it when he did that and leaned into his hand. "Lets go inside." They turned and went inside, their arms wrapped around each other. As much as he wanted to be taking Sue into his arms and kissing her passionately, he also had to explain what had been happening. If he even understood it all himself. He guided her to the lounge and pulled her to sit next to him. "Do you want a drink or anything after your adventure?" She asked before he could say anything. "Actually. Yeah, coffee sounds good." "Stay here, I will go get some." "Hurry back," he told her, his fingers reluctant to let go of hers as she stood up. He looked at her with tired eyes. He was just beginning to realise what he had actually done tonight and it was taking its toll. Sue walked away, looking back at him before walking out into the kitchen. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes. He longed to walk out into the kitchen and wrap his arms around Sue, kissing the back of her neck softly as he whispered in her ear softly. But he knew without a doubt, that it would be better if he stayed in here and waited. Sue stood at the kitchen counter looking out the window into the black sky as the jug began to boil. She was scared and had to escape for a moment. She wanted nothing more than to be in Brian's arms right now, have him lean down and kiss her, but a nagging feeling washed over her. It was fear. Fear of the danger Brian had exposed himself to tonight, fear of what he had found out. And, while not exactly a fear, the effect Brian had on her frightened her too. It was becoming more and more apparent that her feelings for him were growing beyond anything she had ever dreamt of before, and she knew when he left tomorrow, she would be devastated. She never dreamt things could escalate as quickly as they had. And now there was the added fear of the impostor in the equation. The jug boiled and steam began to rise, snapping her out of her musings, only to return straight back into them. Slowly she began to make the coffee, on instinct, her mind on Brian still. Her fingers worked putting coffee and sugar into the two coffee mugs as she thought. Before she poured the boiling water she stopped and looked at it as if it was a foreign object. What was she doing again? A pair of arms came up behind her, sliding around her waist, making her jump and spill the water over her hand "Ouch" she squealed, instinctively lifting her hand to her mouth. "Oh Sue, I'm sorry, come put your hand under cold water." He moved immediately dragging her over to the sink. "It's okay Brian." He took her hand and looked. The side of her thumb was already turning red. "No it's not, look at it. It's turning red. That will blister if you don't put cold water on it." He turned the water on and stuck Sue's hand under the cold running flow. Brian fussed over her for a good 5 minutes, making sure she kept the burn under cold water, and getting a bowl to put more water in for her to soak it in. While Sue had to admit it did sting when it wasn't in the water, all she could focus on was Brian standing so close to her. He was playing havoc with her senses. Her hand was forgotten and all she noticed was him. She moved away from Brian and walked towards the lounge room, sitting on the lounge. "Sue?" Brian said to her following her into the room. She had to move away, put a moment of distance between them for she knew he would follow her. "It's okay Brian, I just needed to sit down for a bit. I am not good with pain. I am surprised I am still standing this long." She laughed ironically. She felt pain all right, but not only the pain in her hand. The one associated with longing and desire was equally as painful. He pulled her into his arms and Sue sighed. This is where she wanted to be. She mentally shook her head. The fright she had gotten with Brian's sudden disappearance had really gotten to her and now he was here she never wanted to let him go. She knew it was unrealistic, but right at this moment, it was all she wanted. The throbbing in her hand was beginning to subside and she sat up a little to look at it. "Brian," she said as she distractedly looked at her hand. "Tell me what happened. How on earth did you end up in the car to that guy's place?" Brian took a ragged breath. This was not what he wanted to do right now. He was happy to be back in Sue's arms, he really didn't want to be talking about the problem they were living through. He looked at her hand as she was doing too, lifting it up and lowering his lips down to the reddened area, pressing them softly to her skin. He lowered her hand still holding it gently. He had done this to her and he felt a huge feeling of remorse at having done so. He wanted to concentrate on the two of them not talk about the other guy. But he knew he had to. "Are you sure you want to talk about it tonight?" He asked gently. A feeling of protectiveness washed over him and he knew he would do anything to keep her safe and happy. "Yes. Brian you scared the living daylights out of me. I couldn't find you anywhere. We don't know what this person is up to, all sorts of things were going through my head. He could have even kidnapped you, could have hurt you, could have…. " She shivered and stopped talking. "Shh, it's okay. Really, I never meant for it to happen but I had no choice." He laughed softly. "You did as I asked and got rid of him quickly, faster than I expected." "I didn't want to spend anytime with him, I had to get rid of him." "Well, I figured he may have been a little more persistent than that and was snooping around in his car when I heard him come out. I had no choice to hide in the back seat like I was. Lucky for me he threw his jacket on top of me and in the dark he didn't see me. I might add it wasn't the most comfortable way to travel." "What did you do when he stopped? Where were you?" Sue asked, keen to know every detail. "In his garage. I waited till he got out and let some time pass before getting out. When he came back to the car," he remembered the phone call he was making and anger welled up in him again. He had been calling Sue his girl. She wasn't his girl at all. "I hid in the garage and waited for him to go," he continued, not letting Sue see his anger. "I waited again, and then snooped around again." "And what did you find out? Why is he doing this Brian?" Brian thought for a while. He didn't want to scare Sue, and his guess was mentioning the photos he had seen would scare her, so he decided then, that he wouldn't tell her. "To be perfectly honest Sue, I really don't know. I have a feeling he realised he looked like me, and thought he might be able to simply cash in on the fame. But then he saw you." "Saw me?" "Sue, you are beautiful, any man would want you." She blinked. "Get outta here Brian." "I'm serious. My guess is he became infatuated with you, and saw an easy way in to your life. He is going to keep coming here, to see you, and see if he can worm his way into your life. Take my place. Or convince you he is the better choice." "Brian, he can't take your place. He isn't you, and you… You are the one I… I want to be with. When he is here, I know. It isn't right, the chemistry or harmony isn't there. With you I know. I know the difference, and I know I will never fall for him, no matter how much he looks like you or how much he tries." Sue rambled off, without even thinking hardly stopping for breath. But Brian was listening to every word and his heart was doing strange things in his chest. But there was still the gnawing feeling he had about this guy. Why was he really doing this? But right now, he wasn't going to think about that. There would be time tomorrow. "I'm glad Sue," he said softly, looking down into her eyes. "It means the world to me to know I am the one you want to be with. Because," he was drowning in her eyes at this point almost forgetting what he was going to say. "Because I want to spend every minute that I can with you." Sue smiled at him then looked down snuggling into his arms. She wanted to reach up and kiss him senseless but she knew in her heart it would lead to their making love. She wanted to make love with Brian badly she knew that beyond doubt. It wasn't like her to think like that, but Brian brought feelings and emotions out in her she had never felt before. She also knew she still wasn't ready for that as much as she longed for it. Not yet though. Not with all that was going on. There was still too much turmoil in their lives. She lay her head closer to Brian's heart taking comfort in the sound of it's steady beat. She closed her eyes curling her arms around him drawing strength and also an inner peace from him. Brian realised Sue had fallen asleep and held her tightly. He too drew comfort in her closeness. His lips pressed against her forehead gently compelled to stay there and not break that little bit of contact. He wanted to be pressing his lips to hers, instead content to just be holding her. Time passed and he realised she was not going to wake. He had to decide what he was going to do. He knew if he stayed here, if they both stayed here, they would be sorry in the morning. Their muscles would groan their protest to them both. Gently he eased away from Sue, hearing her moan slightly as he moved. When he was standing he leaned over and lifted her into his arms. For a moment he stood still inhaling her scent feeling intoxicated as he breathed. Slowly he shook his head and moved towards her bedroom, moving with instinct, his eyes never leaving her sleeping face as he walked. He kicked the door to her room open and clicked the light switch on with a free finger. Letting his eyes adjust he surveyed the room. She was tidier than he was he thought chuckling to himself softly. It was very pink, very feminine and he could tell immediately it suited her perfectly. Her white bed sat in the middle of the room flanked by a small bedside table on one side and a dressing table on the other. He walked over to the bed and pulled the blankets back, gently placing her in the middle. There was no way he would be capable of undressing her and come out of the room with a sane mind, let alone what it would do to his body. Already he was wishing he could curl up next to her, pull her into his arms and become one with her. So the shoes and socks were all he removed, pulling the covers over her when he finished. Hiding her body from full view might help he thought. Then again it might not. He stood, fixed to the spot, unable to leave the room. The vision in front of him had his body humming, his entire being wanting her, yet knowing he couldn't have her. He didn't think either of them was ready right now. But he also knew it wouldn't be far away. Soon, neither one of them would be able to resist the other. His fingers instinctively reached out to brush a stray lock of hair out of her eyes. He let them linger and sat on the edge of the bed, getting closer. Sue did what she did in her conscious state, moving her face into his hand, subconsciously getting close to him. Oh how he loved the woman lying on the bed beside him, it made him ache. He looked away noticing the photo on the bedside table. It was a picture of the two of them, arm in arm at Disney World. It was a photo taken by one of the guides with Sue's camera, which had turned out perfectly. They were both smiling brightly, Cinderella's castle right behind him. The colours in the photo were amazing, but it was Sue's dazzling smile that grabbed his attention. His heart raced just looking at the photo and he turned to look at her sleeping form. He did want her so badly. Brian sighed and rubbed his eyes tiredly. It had been a big day and tormenting himself sitting here looking at the woman he wanted was not helping him any. He rose from the bed and leaned over to kiss Sue goodnight. She smiled and murmured his name in her sleep making him smile as well. He walked to the door and turned to take one last look for the day. "Goodnight Baby." He sighed. "I love you," he said as he walked out and towards the room that was his for now. He knew, in his heart, one day he would share the one he had just come from. |
