Brian knew exactly who AJ had been talking to when he was back at the hotel and a chill had run through him. He had to get back to Sue, he had to save her from this man who wanted her for goodness knows what. He didn't care what happened on the trip over, instructing the driver to go way in excess of the speed limit. How they had avoided a police presence he didn't know, but for once when he could have used them, they didn't show up. He couldn't get up to their floor fast enough. He knew there were fans waiting out the front of the hotel, but he ran passed them all, not giving even one of them a fleeting look. His breathing was shallow as he raced past them all, his mind solely on one thing. When he finally reached their floor he saw Will standing out the front of their room. He looked at Brian then back to the room and his shoulders slumped. "It's him in there isn't it?" Will asked Brian. "Yes, how long has he been in there?" Brian asked him frantically. "Shit, 20 minutes at least." "Damn, Sue will be terrified in there. If he has harmed her in any way, I swear I will kill him with my own bare hands." Brian said savagely meaning every word. "Let me knock." Will said to him and he did, calling out softly to her, trying not to raise Newman's suspicions yet, but Brian knocked right after him calling out to Sue, apologising for upsetting her earlier. Will smiled at him. That was good. Now they only hoped Sue was able to get to the door. He knew she was still in there. When they got no response, Will started pounding on the door "Brian, where's your card?" Will asked him. "Sue has it, I never got one." "Go get one from downstairs," "I'm not leaving here Will. Ring them for one." Brian insisted. There was no way he was leaving this room without Sue in his arms. Will rang for a key, stressing the urgency and continued to pound the door trying to open it. Within minutes a master key was brought to the pair waiting on it and the door was opened. Brian ran into the room looking around wildly when he saw Sue, lying on the bed, her arms tied above her head to the bed head, a silk gag around her mouth. His stomach lurched at the thought of what that animal had done to her and he was immediately by her side. "Oh my God, Sue, what has he done to you?" He reached up to untie the gag from her mouth and the second he did, she screamed and cried uncontrollably kicking and screaming. Brian reached up to untie her hands and she cried out to him to stop. "He broke my wrist Brian," she said and he cursed loudly. Carefully he untied her hands from the end of the bed and took her wrist carefully in his hand, cradling it gently as he pulled her into his arms soothingly, rocking her back and forth. Brian looked at her wrist and shuddered. Sue sobbed into Brian's chest as he rocked her, realising for now her ordeal was over. Brian had saved her. He continued to soothe her, whispering in her ear that everything would be alright now, kissing her softly on the forehead as he did, and she took comfort in that not wanting him to let her go. Belatedly she thought to tell Will that Spencer had got away through the other room, but it was too late for that. Before she knew it, the room was filled with BSB security, hotel security, police, and a doctor. Jac came in, having heard and come back from the venue. But all she wanted right at that moment was Brian. She clung to him, not saying anything to anyone but him, telling him she loved him and was sorry. Tears sprang into Brian's eyes. "Sorry for what? You have nothing to be sorry about. I'm the one who is sorry. If I hadn't been so demanding, you would never have come back her, I will never forgive myself for what has happened to you." Brian said, tears pouring from his eyes as he spoke. He held Sue lovingly, still cradling her wrist gently, never wanting to let her go. "Brian, I think the doctor wants to have a look at Sue. Especially her arm." Sue looked down at her arm and her eyes opened wide in horror. Her wrist was swollen and purple with bruising, and she could see the bone out of place. She moaned with fear again, the pain almost numb now. All her pulling on the ties she had been doing had made the break worse. Brian softly handed her arm over to the doctor, trying not to jar it out of place any more than it already was. "Don't leave me Brian." Sue pleaded with him. "Baby, I'm not going anywhere." Brian assured her. He would be stuck to her side like glue. "Brian, you have a concert in 2 hours." Jac reminded him. "Jac, do you think for one moment that I would leave Sue after what she has been through to go perform on stage? I am not going anywhere." "I'm afraid we are going to the hospital," the doctor announced. "This arm needs surgery and setting." Sue's eyes closed and her breathing became heavy. "Doctor, is she okay?" Brian asked in a worried voice. "I'm going to be sick," she announced just as she leaned over the side of the bed and heaved. The doctor prepared a shot of painkiller for Sue as Brian rubbed her back reassuringly. He was scared beyond belief at what Sue had gone through, and what she still had to face. He vowed to himself he would get even with this man. No one treated the woman he loved like this. Once Sue had received the shot, she relaxed and promptly fell asleep and the doctor prepared her for the trip to the hospital. The paramedics arrived and preparations for surgery were made before she left so she would be ready to be taken straight to theatre. Brian hovered by her side, only moving away when needed. Jac watched on in horror, as Sue's unconscious body was lifted onto the gurney, her deformed arm wrapped in a light bandage, and they wheeled her away, Brian right by her side. Will followed, as the bodyguard. Brian had run from the concert venue so fast, David had not even been aware, and he was on standby at the hospital. Jac got on the phone to Kevin to fill him in on what had gone on here, also to tell him there was no way Brian was going to make the concert or would he be in any fit state to perform. Kevin said they would call a group meeting, but he favoured the idea of postponing the concert one night, seeing they had a spare day. Jac told him she would go to the hospital to be there for Brian, because he was going to need the support. Shock would set in and he would need someone there. She couldn't guarantee he would be capable of performing tomorrow night. The next few hours were a blur for Brian. So many thoughts were bouncing around his head. He blamed himself, he wanted revenge, he felt sick to the stomach at what Sue had been through, and to this moment he still didn't know exactly what had happened to her. If Spencer Newman had forced himself on Sue, he would go ballistic. He would tear the man to shreds the next time he laid eyes on him. Then he thought of Sue and he softened. She looked so terrified lying on the bed when he had entered the room, bound and gagged the way she was. He couldn't get to her fast enough to untie her. Later she looked so vulnerable, cradled in his arms as he rocked her. At that moment all the love he felt for her came to the surface and he would have done anything in his power to take it all away, only there was nothing he could do but be there for her. How would she cope with the ordeal she had been through? He would be there for her, every step of the way. He would not abandon her ever. Till that moment he had forgotten how much he hated hospitals, but there was no way he was going to be leaving her side. The doctor came out after the surgery was complete, telling Brian that they had set the bone and she was now in recovery. While the break was bad, aside from any mental scars she would now carry, physically she was fine. Brian sighed in relief and was then shown to her room. She lay in the middle of the bed, a drip in her good arm, a huge cast around her left wrist, up to her elbow. She looked so helpless laying there, the white of the bed linen, making her look paler than she was. He pulled up a chair and sat down beside her, taking the good hand carefully in his. She moaned softly in her sleep then was quiet. "Don't expect her to wake any time soon Brian." He heard Jac say behind him. He didn't even turn around. "I know Jac, but I'm not leaving. I am not leaving until she leaves with me." Jac nodded behind him, but he didn't see her. Watching Sue like he was, he didn't even notice the tears that were falling. It wasn't till Jac put her hand on his shoulder softly and he looked up, he had to blink to clear his vision that he realised. "How could anyone do this to her Jac? Who knows what he would have done if we hadn't realised he was there. I would have left her till the end of the concert. He could have….." Brian said, trailing off at the end, unable to say the words. Tears were falling faster now and Jac pulled him up and into her arms. "Shh, Brian, it's not your fault even if you believe it is." "What am I going to do if she blames me Jac? She could you know. I should have been there for her and I wasn't. I couldn't bear to live without her Jac, I need her in my life." "Brian, Sue won't blame you." "You don't know that. You don't know what was going through her head while that animal had her tied up. I wouldn't blame her if she did blame me for all this. But, I don't want to lose her Jac." Jac realised it was pointless trying to convince Brian Sue was not going to blame him, so she just hugged him close to her for support. Truth was Jac didn't know what had gone on between them that afternoon or what Sue had been through, so there was no way she could honestly guarantee Brian on Sue's actions. Brian sat back down and took Sue's hand again, talking to her softly, telling her how much he loved her and would always be there for her. Jac moved out of the room to give him privacy, talking to Will and David, but stayed within reach of the room in case he needed her. Before long though, she noticed Brian's head on the side of the bed and knew he had fallen asleep. The shock of the day had worn him out and he couldn't stay awake any longer. ********** Sue began to come around in the early hours of the morning. Her head was hurting and she felt uncomfortable. She didn't want to open her eyes. Why wasn't Brian beside her, holding her like he did every night since she joined him on the tour. She didn't have long before she had to go home, and she wanted him with her. She felt someone holding her hand and she smiled. There he was. But why wasn't he in bed with her. Her other hand felt heavy and ached. She tried to lift it slowly and it was heavy. She tried moving her fingers and pain shot through her. What was going on? Had she broken her arm? She tried to remember what had happened but her head ached. Slowly she opened her eyes to see Brian sitting beside the bed, still fully dressed holding her hand. She looked at her heavy hand and saw it in a plaster cast. She frowned and wondered how she could have broken her arm. Then she remembered. She let out a soft cry, waking Brian in an instant. "Sue, it's okay, I'm here. You're safe now." "Am I in hospital?" she asked him. "Yes, you had a broken wrist, and shock. They needed to operate on your arm. It was badly broken." "It hurt, I remember that. It hurt when he did it, and then I kept struggling against the ties. Trying to get away could have only made it worse," she said almost clinically, but when Brian looked her in the eyes he could see the fear still in them. "It's okay now though Sue. No one will get to you again. I won't let anyone hurt you." "Don't leave me Brian. I'm scared," she sobbed. Brian brushed his fingers through her hair. "Sue I'm not leaving you. Ever. Any time that I can't be with you, someone else will." She squeezed his fingers as hard as she could with an IV drip in her hand. Brian's fears about her blaming him were put to rest with her asking him to stay with her. How could she even think he would leave her? "He was going to rape me Brian. If you hadn't come, he would have raped me." Sue said to him, beginning to get agitated. "Shh Baby, don't talk about it now. You are still drowsy," he soothed. "Go back to sleep, we can talk tomorrow. We can get someone to help you too." "I want to tell the police. I want them to catch him Brian. I won't feel safe until he is caught." "They'll catch him Baby. Come on now, go back to sleep." "What about you? Where will you sleep?" She asked him innocently. "Just here, right here beside you." Brian told her. "I want you to hold me Brian. I want your arms around me to take away the image of that other man. It was bewildering to hate that man so much when he looks so much like you. Hold me Brian, please," Sue begged him. "Of course," he soothed her. He would do anything she wanted him to. He climbed carefully up on the bed rolling on to his side so she didn't need to move and making sure her IV cords were all still in place. His arms went around her naturally, holding her close to him. She sighed and closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep, feeling safe again. Brian dozed too, aware that he would need to be there for Sue every step of the way in her recovery, both physically and mentally. Sue could easily have turned away from Brian, he knew that, considering that animal looked so much like him, but she could tell the difference. She always said she could sense it, of that he was thankful. |
