To ferry a
girl,
from city to home.
A favour to my father,
A stop along my way.
We journeyed on the main road,
Through hill and desert lands.
Admiring splendid vistas,
green hills and red soil sands.
My mission in this sojourn,
Deliver safe and sound.
This student to her family,
for holidays from school.
Her studies at the Uni,
Wise beyond her years.
Interpreting her life,
to my admiring ears.
When her life was dealt with,
Then found time for mine.
Solving all my problems,
All my foibles found.
Life directions charted,
As we ate the miles.
Solutions to all my woes,
Highlighted with smiles.
Skirting towns and orchards,
Sweeping round a bend,
There was her own river,
Gleaming to the moon.
Through the lanes and packing sheds,
To the family abode.
Late at night they gathered there,
In that happy home.
Waiting for their darling,
Their princess now returned.
Younger laughing siblings,
Uncles aunts and mum.
Father beaming proudly,
Bearlike shakes my hand.
Thanks me for a daughter brought,
Safely home once more.
Late night celebrations,
In that country home.
Proud of her achievements,
Wide eyed at her tales.
Speeding on my way,
To another state,
Thinking of my family,
One more day away.
Later on a little note,
Coming through the post.
Thanking me for bringing her.
Once more to her home.
When her thanks were dealt with,
Found time for my life.
Solving all my problems,
All my foibles found.
