Do I need any martial arts experience? No. This seminar is suitable for absolute beginners, while those with experience of Iaido will be catered for at their own level.

What do I wear? While we train in keikogi and hakama, these are not necessary – a judo/karate suit or tracksuit will be perfectly adequate. A judo or karate belt would be helpful, if you have one. As regards footwear, we train barefoot (unless you have a medical reason for not doing so)

Do I need a sword? If you have a bokken or bokuto (wooden sword), or an iaito (metal training sword), then please bring it along, but don’t worry if you haven’t got one – there will be spare bokken at the seminar. Please note that many replica swords on the market are unsuitable for training, so don’t rush out and buy one of these without advice - you could be wasting a lot of money. The Kampai Budokai website has some really good advice on buying an iaito.
