Artillery Duel
Xenox Software
Translated to IBM 100% compatible by Apocalypse Games
Main Programmer: DoomRater
Background:
This is war, folks. The time of Apocalypse is upon us, and we must settle it old fashioned style. That is, with two artillery guns and some old guesswork.
Let the competition begin!
Requirements:
tank.qbm
walk1.qbm
walk2.qbm
walk3.qbm
tree.qbm
MAKE SURE THAT NUM LOCK IS ON; CHECK THE KEYBOARD FOR A LIGHT BY NUM LOCK. PRESS NUM LOCK ON THE KEYPAD UNTIL THIS LIGHT IS LIT.
Difficulty:
You will be prompted after the music and the delay for your skill. Press Up on the number pad to select the easiest difficulty. Press center (5) for middle difficulty, and Down on the num pad for the hardest time.
Controls:
Up and down on the keypad control your power by increments of 1. Minimum is 30, max is 99.
Left and right on the keypad control your angle by increments of 5. Minimum is 0, max is 90.
Press Enter on the keypad to fire the bullet.
Press Esc to quit to DOS. Your computer should automatically return to Windows. If it doesn't, you can close it.
Notes:
Watch not only where the other gun is, but also note the wind and which way it is blowing. A miscalculated shot will not hit the target...
Gravity is light here, as the shells are made of light armor. Get a feel for the gravity of the shells as well as the potent power of the wind.
The longer a shell stays up in the air, the more it will be affected by winds. Use lower angles to avoid air currents.
Trees are weird; your bullet may or may not stop in a tree. This can mean a victory or a defeat!
Damage:
Unlike QBASIC Gorillas, this game does not always win with a direct hit! A warning alert will be sounded when a blast lands and damages your gun, displaying the damage in a percent. If this damage reaches 50%, your gun will explode, and a little guy will walk out to survey the damage. At that point, your score will be displayed on the top of hte screen.
Power of your gun is created when the file is opened. If the gun changes shape, so will the damage ratio! It will still work, too.
Future Additions:
An actual barrel that moves up and down when you move your angle up and down!
Better and more elaborate trees...
A different color landscape and a better algorithm for detecting hits (two in one, actually)
