"A little about this painting. I did this painting in early 2002. Did it in the wee hours of the night. Someone once said that artists get their inspiration at night and I couldn't agree more. At least for me it works. This painting is one of my favourite. There was so much anguish on that night when I painted this. As you can see in the painting, a scorning sun, a barren land and a dying tulip...didn't quite go well with the theme of hope that I wanted to portray in my black tulip series. I supposed, if I gonna paint about hope, surely I should capture also moments of hopelessness." |
