Alumni Dinner with IATSS Forum staff, 13 January 2001, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The slight drizzle did not deter about 25 alumni, staff and family from turning up for dinner with IATSS Forum Japan staff - Director Ashizawa-san and Yoko-san. Even Mrs Fernando was there, that wonderful gem of a lady! Some brought their families, some didn't. But everyone had an excellent time cooking and eating at the Seafood Terminal in Kg Pandan in Kuala Lumpur.

3rd International Alumni Meeting, 9-11 March 2001, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Over 60  IATSS alumni met in the beautiful historical city of Yogyakarta for the 3rd International Alumni meeting. We had a lovely time which started with a short tour of Prambanan Temple where we also had dinner and watched he Ramayana ballet performance. Day 2 was filled with meetings and discussions while on Day 3, we visited the famous Borobodor Temple.

Alumni from Malaysia who attended were Jenny Lam, Billy Teoh, Lim Poh Aun, Navinder Kaur, Cheryl Teh and, Daniel Liew.

For alumni impressions of the meeting, please read them under the 'Bits 'n' Pieces' section of this website

The 4th International Alumni Meeting will be held in the Philippines in 2003. Again, we hope it will be on some beautiful island like Boracay.....

Bon Voyage Party for 29th and 30th Batch, 15 May 2001, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Time flies by so quickly, and before we knew it, it was time again to wish Bon Voyage to this years' IATSS participants. Unlike previous years, for 2001, it was decided that there would be 2 batches instead of one. So, two groups represented Malaysia and they were Tan Jun Nah and Zalina Mohd Som (Batch 29) and Wong Li Za and Roshni Jayantilal (Batch 30). We had a good mix this year with an accountant, an IT specialist and two journalists.
The party was held at Rumah Universiti with our standard IATSS food fare. We were very happy to see alumni at the function including Poh Aun, who came down all the way from Ipoh.

Visit by Shigeta-san and Mimura-san, 13 September 2001, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

It must be a couple of years since Shigeta-san (for those who don't know, he was the 1st IATSS Forum Director) visited us in Malaysia. This time, Mimura-san, long time IATSS Forum volunteer, came with him. Instead of the usual Chinese or hotel fare, we decided to go Indian this time and we had a lovely dinner at the Bombay Palace.
Many alumni and family attended this function, which attests to the popularity of these gentlemen, including many 'old' faces. Roll call of those who attended included
Datin Zuraidah, Johnny Yap & wife Izumi, Chee Wah & wife Wendy, Daniel Liew & wife Megumi, Jayakumar, Irene Leong, Eddie Hu & family, Christopher Fan, Jenny Lam, Dr Aminuddin, Faezah Ismail, Leana Goh, Tan Bee Tuan, Priscilla Yap Poi Yok, Vicki Chan, Anthony Ting, Mahadi Osman, Chua Jim Boon, Foo Chee Thong and Chan Chow Hun. Jeyapalan came as well but left before Shigeta-san and Mimura-san arrived!

It was reported that there were many speeches by past presidents Datin Zuraidah, Dr Aminuddin and Jaya, President Chee Wah as well as from our honoured guests, Shigeta-san and Mimura-san (in Malay!). Yes, if you all remember, Mimura-san is the volunteer who take Malay classes every year (I bet he knows Chan Mali Chan and how to count and how to bargain in Malay really well by now!)and makes really nice katagami.

Nekochan heard that Johnny took some photos ... once received, it will be put up on the site...

Annual General Meeting, 6 November 2001, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Our 2001 AGM was held at Shah's Hotel in Petaling Jaya. Those who attended were treated to a very well planned and executed slide show by our latest IATSS returnee, Tan Jun Nah from the 29th batch. She showed us some really beautiful photos that she had taken during her time at IATSS, accompanied by authentic Japanese music in the background.
Of course, we also had food, though not as yummy as the Roti Jala and Chocolate Cake from Rumah Universiti!
The new committee was elected and if you want to know who's who, please go to the 'Contact Us' section of this website.
