The following information was submitted: Username = Rainier Michael Herbert De Souza Comments = Looking for information regarding Dr. Julius Persson who was the first Adventist missionary sent from Sweden to Africa(Tanzania or Eretrea) in 1907. "In 1907(Julius Persson) he was called to do pioneer work in Ethiopia together with N.P. Lindegren (aphysiotherapist educated at Skodsborg, Denmark). The "Abyssinian-mission" was a project suggested by L.R. Conradi at the Scandinavian Union and was supported by the General Conference Board in Europe (division). Julius Persson and N.P. Lindegren traveled from Hamburg with SS Princess (or Prinsessan) to Eritrea on September 21 1907. (Their travel story is found in "Missionären" from the year 1908, pages 2-4, 52, 130 and 164).They opened a mission in Asmara, Eritrea, which at the time was an Italian colony. Abyssinia (Ethiopia) was not yet open to foreign missionaries. During the time they learned the languages tigrinja and Italian. In 1910 Julius Persson and a Finnish medical doctor, F.W. Wasenius, who had arrived in Eritrea in 1909, traveled around looking for a place to build a medical clinic. They visited Aksum and Adua among other places." Information found in the Adventist employee registry collected by the former president of the Swedish Union, Gosta Wiklander. http://www.genfamily.org/ingles/julius_ingles.htm 1907 sänds de första långväga missionärerna från Sverige, Julius Persson och N.P.
