The following information was submitted: Username = Hubert F. Sturges Comments = My Father, John Hubert Sturges, M.D., pioneered the medical work at the Songa Mission Hospital in 1926, and later the medical work at Ngoma in Rwanda in 1930. My brother, Stanley, and I were born at Songa. My twin brothers, Keith and Glenn, were born at Ngoma. I was the oldest of the four boys, and was just 6 years old when we returned to USA. So my memories are dim, but I remember things were primitive. We lived in grass thatched houses with hard clay floors. Yet, to us children, it was "home". I see you have Heri mission listed. My sister and brother in law pioneered the hospital work there in 1954. Elizabeth and Bill Taylor. They live in Portland, OR. Ethiopia belongs to sub-Saharan Africa, and is not listed. My wife and I served in Ethiopia from 1953 through 1957 -- in Addis Ababa and in Gimbie. Please put us on your list for notices and news about Africa. Hubert Sturges |
