The Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula
The Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula, located on Tower Green, is where many people who have lived in the tower, both as prisoner and as free, are buried. Former commanders of the Tower are buried side by side with executees such as Anne Boleyn and Jane Grey. Plaques in the church list the names of all of the Yeoman Warders who have served at the Tower, and commemorate Britain’s military heroes. The church, whose name appropriately means St. Peter "in Chains," was originally outside the Tower, but Henry III’s expansion of the walls of the Tower brought it inside. Rebuilt under both Edward I and Henry VIII, it underwent a restoration in 1876 under Queen Victoria.
