The first church meeting was in Jerusalem and the first members of that church meeting were all believing Jews not Roman Catholics.

Acts 1:12-14

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying; that is, Peter, and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

Read the Book of Acts, its all about the first church. The first group of believers continued to be in Jerusalem until persuation broke out and the Jewish believers left the city (thus spreading the good news of Jesus Christ).

The people were first called Christians at Antioch

Acts 11:25,26

And when he left for Tarsus to look for Saul; and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came about that for an entire year they met with the church, and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Antioch is a city in the middle of the country of Turkey - not Rome. Read what Peter (the first Pope) in 1 and 2 Peter

Saint Peter points out that salvation is only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Saint Peter does not in any way indicate that salvation can be obtained in any other way.

Salvation can not be obtained:

by belonging to any particular group of believers

by being good

Jesus is the complete sacrifice for our sins.

1 Peter 1:2(second part)states:

You may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood

1 Peter 1:3

states that we have a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead;

No church or demonination can not save anyone. The saints in Christ time on earth, did not die for you nor can they save you. It is only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross and the resurrection power of Christ from the grave.
