Introduction
The
Millennium Wheel (British
Airways London Eye) on London's south bank provides one of the
very few places from which to view our great city. That's because,
though London may have scaled the heights of global kudos in
recent times, compared to other great cities, it is extremely low
slung.
This absence of height is often
proclaimed as part of London's charm, but that doesn't alter the
fact that it would be exhilarating to discover the few really
stunning vertical viewing points available.
Some
of the most obvious high spots of the capital such as Canary
Wharf, the Telecom
Tower and the NatWest Tower are office blocks that allow
views only to those whose business lies within. This makes London
even more at odds with the likes of Paris and New York whose high
points are often public spaces. London is a more secretive city
which makes finding the best viewing spots a little tricky.
Tricky, but not impossible.
From man-made sites like the
London Hilton on Hyde Park Corner and natural highs such as
Primrose Hill to outer London places like Shooters Hill and
Hampstead Heath, LondonNet gives the low-down on the high-ups that
are the capital's best viewing spots.
